This was part of last night's dinner:

Tomatillos were not involved.

Too bad I don't have a guacamole channel!...in my mind.

The salsa has black pepper. That I know.

Black pepper and maybe oregano.

Someone swore they had the recipe and gave it to me.
I've never made it.  Don't want to be disappointed.

Tito’s Tacos Salsa

8 Roma tomatoes
1.5 small pickled jalapenos
One pickled carrot from the jalapeno can
One thin slice of white onion
Juice from 1/4 lime
About a tsp of salt
Ten or so dashes of pepper

Just put it all in a blender or food processor

I agree on the Roma but do you think it's possible that the tomatoes are blanched - shocked - peeled - squeezed (some seeds remain) zapped.

I cry real tears about hot sauce heat when the cap of the bottle is still on. I just detected the black pepper as heat.

But I am a gringa from NJ.

Agnes, those dogs are a work of art!

Tito's salsa has no heat.  It's about taste.  You may be right about the squeezing of the tomatoes but would they really take the time?

Has it changed at all over the years?

I went through the salsa in a CCSI session and It really seems as though the tomatoes have been peeled. The fresh froth on top hints tomatoes and nothing but tomatoes as the base. I don't know too much about salsa but I've zapped my share of Romas over the years.

Felix, It's not supposed to hurt! If it's still hurting in the morning... call your dentist.

CC:  Has it changed over the years?  Yes... it used to be on the counter in small containers for you to take yourself.    They may zap them.  I don't remember any tomato skin in it.

They always offered the diced, pickled jalapeno sauce for heat.

It's the infected part that hurts, which he said to expect (I'm supposed to give the antibiotics a couple of days, and call him if it doesn't get better). He actually called me tonight...from his house, at just shy of 9pm, to see how I'm doing.

Feel better soon!

To rule out tomatillo juice I will juice a tomatillo before I go to the park for a run while I throw bread towards pigeons....and yell at squirrels. That's Day 1 on the wagon.

We can safely say...peas (that was a strange notion through the years) are off the board.

The guacamole is a tough nut to crack.

This is tomatillo juice in a Tomatillo Mary...

I never had Pulaski hot dogs. Made in Linden. II wonder if it's related to Pulaski mustard. That's a good old-school mustard.

No tomatillos!  Not tart enough.

I overdosed on it last night.  It had avocados in it!

Maybe it's just water and a robot-coupe.  Can you juice a jalapeno?

It's safe to say...avocados make the cut!

Jalapeños can be juiced with a juice extractor. I'd be reporting some meals from the emergency room if I drank it .

Nothing like avocados or bananas with an extractor. They could be zipped and zapped with a Vitamix etc.

Happy Birthday, Janet! Calamari sounds wonderful!

I graduated to bean with ham soup from my freezer tonight. It's better, though! Maybe in a couple of days I'll be back to real food, although I'm gonna have to skip really hard stuff like nuts or chips for a while yet.

Inspired by a recent trip to Nashville.  I tried to recreate the "Stroganoff Burger" from "The Pharmacy" Burger Parlor and Beer Garden.

It was about 2/3lb of fresh ground beef, grilled to proper doneness, a stroganoff sauce, with carmelized onions and mushrooms, and a hint of sour cream with swiss.

I have now gone through 4lbs of ground beef and a lb of swiss and 2 16oz sour creams and still have not hit the perfect mix that the pharmacy offers.

They were nonetheless very edible and I am going to have burgers again tonight.

This time with baby swiss and carmelized onions and sauted mushrooms.  YUMMMMMMMM

www.thepharmacynashville.com

HEY PP - they got a great selection of beers too, and REAL phosphates and sodas and shakes.

It has, pretty much! Despite my inability to remember to take four antibiotic pills per day (I'm getting three, it's pretty close). It's still a little goofy when I bite down very hard, but I think that's more that the temporary filling sticks up a little higher than my tooth did. I'm not supposed to chew on that side anyway. Speaking of chewing...Vidalia onions are in stores! I had to do a huge sausage, bell pepper and Vidalia onion skillet for dinner. Which I was even able to eat! An all-around win.

Since it's Mother's Day, I decided to make mom one of her favourites: tuna noodle casserole. But since she's not supposed to have carbs, I used whole wheat penne instead of egg noodles.

I think the next time we go out, I'll introduce him to the concept of food pictures.

Took the guy out for dinner (his birthday is tomorrow, but I'm working 18 hours) to a local steakhouse. Rare tri-tip, with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. He got his well done (blech), with a loaded baked potato and side salad.

I boiled some spaghetti and topped it with mushroom sauce from Andres Italian Restaurant.  It's not tomato based and is more of a brown wine sauce.  I ate the evidence.

I buy a few pints whenever I'm there and freeze it.

Been looking for the recipe for more than 30 years.

I've brought it up in conversation a couple of times...I think he'll be prepared.

Tonight, I treated myself, all by myself, to fabulous sushi. I'm doing a show this week and have been typically getting fast food on the way home for days, or eating the leftover tuna casserole. Today I have a 90-minute dinner break, and the best sushi in town is two blocks from the theatre.

Felix, that sushi looks wonderful.  (They have sushi in Michigan?    )

I've been putting together a huge pot of gumbo for my late by one week Mother's Day dinner.  Doing Southern this year with mostly sides. That's a lot of slicing and dicing.

Doing all of this while in pain.  I thought I broke a bone at the base of my thumb.  I waited 3 months to go to a doctor.  My doctor is the Clipper's doctor and knows my family so I like him and trust what he says.

What I did was inflame an arthritic thumb.    I'm missing 50% of the cartilage and of course it hurts!  So he hurt me even more with a huge needle full of anti-inflammatory.  IT HURTS!

So the end of this story is that I had a peanut butter and Knott's Boysenberry Seedless Jelly sandwich.

LOL Mar!! It took me almost 20 years to find this place...and I only went there after people who aren't from here told me it was good. Used to be, I could only get sushi when I traveled to within view of the ocean, but they do a darn fine job if a little pricey (you're looking at $28.00 worth right there). But I'm good with paying because I know their fish is fresh.

Sorry your thumb hurts. Hopefully after the needle part stops hurting it'll help. I wish I was there...I'd totally offer to slice and dice everything you need in exchange for some gumbo. It's been over a year since I made any.

I also haven't made any in some time.  I cheated this time and used a base but I doctored it up real good.  It's not like mine, but it's not bad.  The taste will change a bit Sunday when I add the shrimp.  Tomorrow I'll be peeling and deveining.

Mar - Sounds like a great Mothers Day event coming up!  Looking forward to pics later.

Bummer about your thumb!  I have the same condition, but have never gotten a shot for it.  Doc offered to remove the offending bone instead. Yikes.

Glad to find another partner in crime who'd have an apple fritter for dinner (and admit it).

Apple Fritters aren't big enough.  When I get to that last bite I'm so sad.

Surgery for the condition was mentioned but he thought that was way off and wasn't that excited about it.  (Good!)  The doctor mentioned some sort of a molded brace made for me if the pain didn't subside.

Time for me to start my cheesecake.  I'm going to toast a few walnuts to add to the graham cracker crust.  I want to thank the inventor of the food processor, a small kitchen appliance I rarely use.

Carlos' apple fritter was as big as a manhole cover. It easily covered what's for everything that day...

I just fail to understand why you go to all the bother of peeling and deveining  when you can go to Boneys/Henries or what ever name they now call them self now and for a few measley dollars more buy them already to cook w/o all that hassle?

Well then....  please accept my apologies for the reply!  I assumed (and we all know what that means)  that your Shrimp was for the mainstay of the meal!
Why dont you try using crawfish next time.....  perhaps a bit less expensive and tastes just as good!

I didn't "relent".  I said I was going to eat salad in response to his cheeky remark after seeing some photos of me on another thread........"Geeze, you were thinner then!"  Arrrrrrrrrgh.
