Oh no, felix - you're on vacation in Reno at the start of the biggest heat wave!  Bummer.

Dinner tonight was smoked salmon (from my Cameron) on snack sized bagels and a slice of lemon pie with blueberry compote.

Thank you Nona!

Tonight lleechef made a dinner of braciole, Piemontese style, with pennoni and a caprese salad. The braciole, unlike most versions of this Italian classic is filled with a meatball mixture of ground pork and ground beef seasoned with onion. garlic, grated Parmigiano Reggiano, salt, pepper and flat leaf parsley, the filled and tied steak, which has been pounded thin, is browned and then braised in a sauce of hand crushed San Marzano plum tomatoes. The sauce is used on both the sliced braciole and on the pennoni. Oh, my! Again, a special thank you to lleechef's Nona for passing on her family recipe.

Not to worry! I only had to fly into Reno. I'm actually in Tahoe. It's been 85-ish during the day and 50-ish at night. And since I come from the land of ohmygod humidity, the 25% factor here means I'm absolutely comfortable if not a bit chilly. In fact, most nights about 9pm I've been putting on long pants and a hoodie.

Dinner tonight was a couple of different kinds of cheese with garlic-sea salt crackers and some darn fine wine.

Looks delicious felix!
@Mar, I'll be attending my niece's wedding today. I have a funny feeling that the food won't be quite as good as the Spago wedding you attended!

Agnes...it was amazing! Cheese was from the Sierra Nevada Cheese Company, which does all organic cheese. Normally I can't tell the difference between organic and regular according to taste, but they are amazing!

Mar...nope. We were going to have chocolate, but instead we got talking and drinking some of her home-brewed raspberry ale, and somehow it just never happened. You'll have that when my best friend and I get together and the kids go to bed.

That looks mighty scrumptious, pnw!  So did the pot roast, btw.

And hey--I wish we could control where the heat goes!  I'd have sent some to the ballpark last week for some of those night games.  Brrrrrr  And right now I'd be sending some heat to the bats for the Giants.  They've been pitiful recently.

I've been wanting to post in this thread for a long time. This is my dinner. Pulled Pork BBQ from a local place called Full Service BBQ. It was a family pack order consisting of :
1 pound of pork
3 sides (potato salad, beans, & mac & cheese)
5 sandwich rolls
5 chocolate chip cookies (not pictured)
1 container of BBQ sauce.
Sorry if this sounded more like a review, but wanted to give the place I got my dinner from recognition. If you ever pass thru Maryville TN, they are worth a try.

Re:What's For DINNER ...??? 2013/07/01 01:08:17 (permalink)
I'm a couple of days behind. Saturday we drove down to Santa Cruz to see a concert by one of our favourite artists, and ended up getting dinner afterward at The Crepe Place. We had what they call Caliente Sisters, which is a crepe filled with French triple-cream brie, and served with jalapeno jelly. I had mine with a local amber ale that was pretty tasty.

This morning we drove back home to Tahoe, and at at The Cantina on the south shore. This is my all-time favourite thing they make...Calamari Relleno: calamari steak stuffed with three cheeses, olives, scallions, then dipped in beer batter, fried and served with lime sauce and tropical fruit salsa. I always get it without salsa because sometimes they put melon in it and I'm allergic. It is to die for. For this one, I chose a Belgian White beer.

I can't tell you how happy I am to be back on the mountain! Saturday afternoon driving through the Sacramento valley by Vacaville it was 118 degrees. Even with AC in the car I thought we were going to die.

$7.95/lb???  The best price on salmon around here is $17.95/lb at the farmers market.  I haven't seen Copper River, btw, but I haven't been to the market that has a large variety, either.  They'd probably charge $23/lb, if I know them.

$7.95 for that quality is a steal, I buy enough for two meals in 3 days, after that I have had my fill of fish for a while. The cool lemon dill sauce was perfect for a hot day.............

Copper River for $7.95??  Wow!  It's more in Alaska!  And here it was going for $29.99/lb.  Halibut was $23.99/lb.  Crazy.
The "big chicken" was an oven roaster, not a little scrawny fryer.  Or as one of my former restaurant owners would say about fryers, "They're PARAKEETS!!!!"

I guess you know that Prince William Sound salmon is not Copper River salmon, but it is VERY good!!!  I caught a lot of salmon in PWSound and it's wonderful.  The best salmon I ever had was when I lived in Alaska and it was a Yukon River King.  Unbelievably delicious.
