The Packers & Saints kick it off on Thurs. & with no rooting interest in either team, I can just enjoy the game. (That won't be the case on Sunday night, when my Jets host those guys from Dallas.) Pats & Eagles seemed to have stocked their rosters pretty well, but can they play as a team? More than a few teams (Colts, Jags, Redskins, etc.) still have QB questions at this late date. Will the short pre-season result in some ragged play in the first few weeks? Answers coming this weekend.

The $64,000 Question is "Why did they wait so long to decide to do another surgery on Manning"?
Beware of the Redbirds of the Desert! They're going to surprise some experts PROVIDING they can remain relatively healthy. Fear the Redbird!!!

NFL Pundits predict that Vick is injury prone. If he keeps running out of the pocket, someone will nail him.

CK, my guess is that Peyton will be out the entire season and perhaps the rest of his career.  It appears that very few can return successfully after that type of injury according to all reports that I have read.  I really hate it for Peyton as he was great.

I second Sundancer's note about Peyton Manning's status. The Colt's exist around his QB role. Breaking in a Sub...or a replacement, will cost them the season.  I wish him well.

The Packers/Saints game last night was one of the 'most fun' games I have ever watched. The results were very good.  The never-ending effort by the Saints kept the excitment going to the final gun !

Jets didn't so much win the game, more of a case of Romo & the Cowboys losing the game.

After watching the Bears-Falcons game yesterday I think Brian Urlacher spent his lockout days tracking down the fountain of youth!
Last week I heard one radio host refer to the NFC North as the toughest division in the NFL.  He just might have a point.

Maybe had the Vikings not blown a halftime 10 point lead over the Chargers after that San Diego Al Gore look alike coach put the Vikings passing attack in a lock box. McNabb threw for a total of 39 yards and only 2 in the second half. Maybe the Vikings infatuation with old quarterbacks may be coming to an end.

A nice wins for the 'Skins! Not only a season opener, but a Division win!

QB situation may not be as grim as it seemed. And the Defense looked really good.

Lots of interesting results around the league - Bengals winning, Lions winning, Colts in trouble - looks to be a shift of power in a few divisions.

When Rex Grossman is on his game he can be quite good but during his years in Chicago he was pretty inconsistent, so what you see next Sunday might bear absolutely no resemblance to what you saw yesterday.

I don't even know if that is really true.  There are some guys who dog it, like Albert Haynesworth and Jamarcus Russell, but for the most part, the effort is there.  Reductions in productivity don't necessarily mean that they aren't working hard.  It's a brutal game that takes its toll pn those who play it.  They "I got mine" guys are few and far between.

That's why Aaron Beck is there, who hasn't played crappy either. I think both players have improved since their former years on other teams. Which some expected, but I thought both QBs were back-up type QBs at this point, but both are proving me wrong. I like Shanahan - it's a long season, but he's creating an aura of working together and team spirit and a winning attitude, without being overconfident. Something people like Haynesworth and even McNabb didn't have. I like McNabb and I don't think of him as selfish as Haynesworth. However, I think McNabb was a team player in Philly, but not so much in DC - not because he wasn't happy here, but because he didn't trust ownership anymore - and if there's one owner not to trust, it's Jerry Jone....I mean, er uh, Dan Snyder!

I would think that the Texans would- They have tough games within the next 5 weeks against N.O., Pittsburgh and Baltimore.  On the rest of the schedule- Miami, Oakland, Tenn (2X) Jacksonville (2X), Cleveland, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, and Indy.  I would think that they are good for at least 10 wins.

Out of all of the players in the NFL, I would submit that Peyton Manning is more valuable to his team than any other player in the NFL is to theirs.  He's one of those few quarterbacks that takes average wide receivers and makes them look really good, such as Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon.  Other QB's that have had that ability that come to mind are Brett Favre and John Elway.   Probably have to put Brady in that group as well, and I'm sure there's more.

The 'Skins have managed to stumble back into first place in the NFC East - with an awful loss to Dallas, and equally poor showings against St. Louis - but a win. Thank goodness for the Redskin defense - keeping games tight even when the offense implodes.

Two weeks to prepare for Philly - if Vick is out, I feel better. But I'm still nervous. Travelling to Buffalo (where they seem to win no matter how far they fall behind), an improved SF team  -although at home. Jets, New England and travel to Giants still left.

IF the 'Skins offense can be more consistent, we're good. But games like the past two weeks, ugh! Someone said Grossman was inconsistent - he can shine or break your heart. I'd rather skip the heart break.

Can anyone tell me why the Skins are playing the entire AFC East? If they were to win all four, will the Skins have the option to play in the AFC playoffs?

Re:Where's the NFL Chatter ('11 version)? 2011/12/04 17:27:29
Even though they're still 7-5 and a wild card team if the season ended today, the Bears are in deep trouble without Jay Cutler and totally dead in the water if Matt Forte's knee injury turns out to be serious.  Today's loss to Kansas City was brutally ugly (no other way to describe it) and I won't be at all surprised if the GM gives Donovan McNabb a call tomorrow if he hasn't already.
