In reference to what phatphil was asking, my biggest problem with conch fritter's is, there always seems to be a lot more fritter than conch. I prefer conch salad just for that reason.

Also try Chef Creole. He was born in the Bahamas to Haitian parents, and has a little of both in his cooking. For instance, the conch fritters are served with a little container of pikliz (VERY hot Haitian slaw with habenero peppers). All the locations are pretty "divey." I think the one on NW 2nd Ave (US441) at 203 st has closed. I've been to the one on 54th St and the one on West Dixie Highway. Service is SLOOOOOWWWW, so you might want to call ahead. The one on West Dixie has a counter with a few stools. The one on 54th St has outdoor picnic-table seating under cover. It also has a drive-through window. Google shows some other locations: 1392 NW 119th Street Phone: 305.769.9446 7957 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Miami - (305) 754-2298 I've seen the 119th St location in the past year.

Currently, we've been getting our conch fritter fix from a booth at the Overtown Folk Life Fridays on the first friday of every month. Here's a video There are a few vendors selling conch fritters. The one we prefer is a woman who is selliing several kinds of cakes, AND is selling conch fritters. We has some nice coconut cake from her this month.

There is a character in a Dave Berry novel, Tricky Business, who gets rich from opening a chain of conch-fritter fast food restaurants. “The secret was that the fritters contained absolutely no conch. Kemp had figured out that not only did conch cost money, but also that the chewy, funky little pieces of meat were the least appealing element of the fritter.”

I love conch in all forms - cracked conch, conch salad, and conch fritters. I can order it from a seafood shop in LEX, but it is expensive! The "Atomic Cafe" in LEX has pretty good conch fritters, but they're not like the ones you get in the Bahamas!

If you go........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay far south and somewhat east, the Best Conch Fritters I think I ever had in 3 yrs in Fl was at the airport in Key West. They were so good I almost missed my wife and kids getting off the plane to meet me! Served with a wide array of hot sauces too.........not to mention the healthy pour drinks! Was able to collect the family..but had to leave one fritter behind!...Alas!
