The Egg & I

Is anyone familiar with The Egg & I restaurants?  It's a 24-year-old chain from Ft. Collins, Colorado and the first Wisconsin location recently opened not too far from my office.

I've never heard of it but looks like an interesting menu.  Is it a growing chain?

It was the place to go when you visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Wilshire Boulevard back in the '70s which might not be the same place because that's more than 24 years ago.

Also seeing that they are not currently in California makes me think someone in Fort Collins ate there.

There's one in Scottsdale. It's 2-3 notches above a Dennys or IHOP. Cozy facility, good food. Worth a try.

Yes - I ate at One in Colorado near Denver in August with aCo-worker and have already eateen at New one in Madison. Though it is a Chain it has a very locally owned vibe. And good food. Egg dishes are their thing and they do them excellent, I have had Wisconsin Scramble and the the Sunrise Chile Rellono, both were excellent.  The Ranch Potoatoes are diced a little too small, but .. I will be going there often.

They have one over near Rector,by the old Central park mall in San Antonio.Ate there a couple of years ago with my sister and her hubby, and the pancakes were huge! They were staying at the A Lofts hotel, so it was very close.
Too bad they don't have one closer to me.

Yul invented the shaved bald head look, he was way ahead, so to speak, of his time.

We tried them (their Addison location in North Dallas) once and that was more than enough.

On the server's advice I ordered the crabcake benedict; it was absolutely, unspeakably vile.  The meager little specks of what they called "crab" had to be hunted for in their "cake" smelled and tasted fishy.

I wasn't expecting a G&M or Oceanaire crabcake, but calling whatever it was that was that befouled the space between my muffin and poached egg a "crabcake" approached criminality.

My wife ordered pancakes and eggs.  She was served pancakes and pork sausage.  As she doesn't "do pork", she requested a new plate with pancakes and eggs that had not been soaked in pork grease.  The waiter tried to say that we wouldn't be charged for the sausage (which was not the issue).  Finally, he brought out a new plate of pancakes with no eggs.  My wife asked for her eggs.  They came out cold with the bill 20 minutes later!

Looks can be VERY deceiving.  (See our experience above).

Stick with the Waffle House!  That's good eatin' served by nice, friendly, competent folk!

It's too expensive for me. Waffle House is cheaper for about the same thing. Breakfast is pretty easy to do or make.

Better yet, wake up on a Sunday, make love, smoke a bowl and then walk naked in the kitchen and have a bowl of corn flakes. Beats the crap out of the "Egg and I".
