I wanted to let all of the Roadfooders here in Central Texas and particularly in the Austin and Georgetown area of a new Mexican place that opened in the last year or so. We stumbled upon this place while driving back to Georgetown from Temple. It's called Mexicano Grille and it truely is great. I have been hardpressed to find any good menudo around here and finally did. The Mrs. sang the praises of her Chili Rellano all the way home. Anyway it's on the east side of IH35 in Jarrel right behind this incredibly huge truck stop. And no this is not spam.

I know, it's not for everyone. Right up there with beef tongue tacos, but My affair with menudo began in San Diego. While stationed there a friend from the VFW talked me into trying a bowl and have been hooked ever since. In fact we used to venture into the barrio on Sunday and find little hole in the wall mom and pop places. They always had the best as they make it fresh.

I tried to brave a bowl of menudo one time.  Couldn't get past the "aroma".

I had some of the broth but that's as far as I got!
99% of the Mexican Restaurants here sell it on the weekends.
Supposed to cure a hangover.
I can understand that.
Eating that stuff would make you forget all your other ailments.
"Waiter, Waiter, there's tripe in my soup!"

Nothing like a crisp fall morning with a bowl of menudo and a couple of barbacoa tacos.

Chili R's is how I judge a Mexican place.
