Guinness Black Lager

Has anybody tried Guinness Black Lager?  I bought some today and it's pretty good, definitely Guinness-y in character but lighter, and I'm liking it as an accompaniment to some crackers and sharp cheddar cheese spread.

Huh, first I've heard of it, but I really luv Guinness Extra Stout, I like that heavy duty taste and feel. When I find it on sale I'll try it. Hope it's better than the canned or bottled Guinness draft, too weak tasting.

I have been a Guinness fan since my first pint at Edinburgh Castle so many years ago. There are certain things they have done over the years that have proven a disappointment to me. The primary one was when they started allowing bars to do quick pours. If you can not taste the difference between a slow and quick pour, you just are not paying attention. I have never liked their canned beer and only do the bottle if there is nothing better. As such, I will probably pass on the Guinness Black . . . at least for now.
 

I don't care for the Stout -- never have been able to enjoy it. But I do like the Black Lager.

Also a big Guinness Extra Stout fan, and definitely appreciate a well poured draught. Needless to say I'm looking forward to trying the Black Lager. If it's anywhere near as good as Sam Adams Black Lager, I'll probably like it.

Found some and liked it. Nice combination of flavor elements.

Does taste like a lager. Enjoyable.
My favorite black lager is Sprecher Black Bavarian ... the Guinness BL did not compare.
The Guinness Black Lager was decent, but for more than the price of their stout or extra stout, a bit hard to swallow.

Of all the good beers that Sprecher makes the Black Bavarian is probably my favorite.  Plus it comes in those nice 16 oz. bottles!

I have had this one quite a few times and like it very much. It kind of remindes me of some sort of beer I tried in Germany once, but I always forget it's name. I might add that when I figure it out again.

I knew about the GBL but haven't tried it yet. I've been a Guinness fan ever since the my first pint was pulled many years ago in an English pub in Devon. However, the best pint I ever had was in a small bar (not pub) in Dublin. It was served with very thin crispy (fresh) fried potato "crisps". There's a world of difference between a "pulled" fresh draught and a Guinness (or, any beer or lager) from a can or bottle.
 
After reading some of the above comments, I would like to try the Sprecher Black Bavarian, too. I've never had it.

The Sprecher Black Bavarian is actually my favorite beer, period.

 I've tried the Black Lager several times and like it. While I really enjoy a good stout, the GBL is light and crisp and is really a good change from the heavier, more filling stouts. I haven't seen the Sprecher Black in my area but I would be glad to try some. 

Jon, since Sprecher's a Milwaukee microbrewery I think your odds of finding any locally are pretty slim and you might have to hit the road and head to Illinois.  Good luck!

New Yorkers of a certain age (including myself) feel that there will never be a pint of Guinness as well-poured as at The Liffey Tavern near Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, which closed sometime in the late 80's.  It had an International Reputation, people from Ireland would make it thier first stop after landing at Kennedy.  In reality, other than the Guinness, it was pretty much a dive bar, but Oh, that Pint!

Had some this weekend. It pairs well with food.

I like my beer and beginning to really enjoy stouts will have to try thanks for the tip.

I can only speak for myself but having had many a slow pour at various pubs in the UK and Scotland, I find the Guinness here in the USA sadly lacking. The same for Strongbow cider that I grew so fond of.

Will look for it.  I'm a fan of Kostritzer, myself.

I've had it a couple of times over the year since my last post on the subject, I really like it. It's not as toe curling as a good pint of the draught, but pretty darn good.

Yes, not bad for mass produced beer. I brew a porter that is very similar, but a tad hoppier. 

Never look down at a pint of Guinness.
