GLEE CLUB MEET & EAT, FEB. 18&19. NASHVILLE

I am working on a solution to the housing situation. There is a Marriott Homestead Suites opening very soon in an excellent location. I'm negotiating with the new manager to fill his rooms for a soft opening with about fifteen to twenty rooms.  I'll have more details in a few days.

Well, I'm in!  Made my hotel reservation today.  I will arrive sometime on Friday.....depends on when I can get off work.  Woohoo!

PP:  That sounds great for me.  You could also mention that several of us have Marriott rewards account.  Most of the time you do get some advantages for that.  Where is it located???

I agree that the Knock'em Hill stop should be an option for the Friday arrivals. We aren't sure if we will get to town Friday evening or Saturday morning (early).
We are looking for a dinner place for the general session Saturday evening. Criteria is -- Room for 20-25 or so members, timing open enough to allow us to socialize a bit before-during-after dinner....no eat and out-the-door place will work for this meeting.  Menu can vary, but regional food is probably the most desireable.  Price is not an issue, but we tend to the more moderate price menus, as opposed to the High End Steakhouses.

We have about 15 folks indicating they are coming, and another 8-10 showing "maybe". That will make a fine group. All are invited so don't hold back just because you haven't 'done this' before.

seriously, here in Rhode Island-that's all we have are Italian restaurants all are above average or better.A mediocre or sub-par Italian restaurant wouldn't exist here in Rhode Island . If a non Italian restaurant goes out of business, it opens...as another Italian restaurant. Italian restaurants NEVER go out of business here due to "lack of patronage"

When traveling in the South, I suggest you not mention that you think Grits & Polenta are basically the same thing for fear that you might suffer bodily harm. Civil Wars have been started over less than that. Besides, you'll never hear anyone utter the phrase, "Kiss My Polenta" anywhere in the South, nor serve Shrimp & Polenta.   

My friend  Stephen has decided that  it would be fun to go to this gathering  so count us in  unless I cannot put some major eye surgery off.   Sure hope that Italian is not the restaurant chosen for the big get together!

WJ, my thoughts exactly.  As far as the Italian place goes, even though it would not be my first choice, it will be wonderful to be with friends.  I would prefer something more regional.
 
I definately want to do the hot fish and hot chicken while I am there.
 
I think wherever we go, there will be enough of us to insure that we have a private room or a area roped off for us.  The number is growing.  Al had us at 15 and Greymo and Steven appear that they will join and we have several more maybe's.
 
WJ, PP indicated that he is working on a deal with Marriott and that sounded good to me.  Have you found anything?

Wow!  This is, without a doubt, the biggest Roadfood event I have ever seen.  So many fun and interesting people gathering in one spot.  An epic event!

Joe the event will be sorta large but we had a Glee Club even a few years ago at Owensobor, KY and there was in excess of 30 roadfooders attended.
 
All have been good and some have been great.

I've spent a good portion of my life traveling in the Southern United States. I have family there, and members of my family fought for the Confederacy in the War of Northern Aggression. I have no problem speaking of the fact that grits and polenta are basically the same. FYI: Hominy grits are not the same.

I have no plans as yet for Friday, but Saturday is looking like this:
Breakfast will be in Clarksville, Tn., at a German bakery/pastry shop/ restaurant. Nobody has ever heard of this place, but they do the bread and pastry for many of Nashville's finest restaurants.  Next stop will be Knock-um Hill for a few giant pork chops.  We'll make a short stop at a legal moomshiner just across the Kentucky line, then be free for the afternoon. I think Cliff, Meriton and I will go to the Mexican popsicle stand.  Dinner will be at Loveless Cafe, from 6:30 to 9:00.
Sunday morning brunch will be at Ellendale's near the airport, on Old Elm Hill Pike.

I simply don't have the "moohlah" to spend more- I already spent more on a hotel than I expected in New Orleans at least I'll be right downtown.

I should be arriving in Nashville sometime late Friday afternoon- I'll be driving in from Little Rock. I may or may not have time for Sunday brunch-it depends on how early  it is since I have to drive back to Birmingham for a 3:45 pm flight home- I'm still trying to get a later flight out (I'm using a one way free flight award) but so far no such luck.

OK I saw Pete's Post above after I posted this one...Maybe it will offer a bit more info.
OK- Here's the PROBABLE Saturday Schedule .  More details will follow. (The Italian Dinner idea is gone!!)
Saturday- 
1.   Breakfast at ******* Pete has the name of a German bakery/breakfast place on I-24 NW of Nashville. Excellent bakery stuff on the menu, and gets us off to a good start.
2.  Knock'em Hill BBQ mid-morning (when they open). The suggestion is that we share some of the Famous Pork Chops as "Sampler Plates". Other BBQ stuff is available too.
3.   Then head back to Nashville to try some Hot Fish/Chicken for a late lunch.
4. Afternoon treats (or naps) then a ride out west to...
5.  The Loveless  for Dinner!! They have many regional specialties, but most of us have only been there for Breakfast.

I did a tally and we have 22 folks, so far, not counting Joe until he gets a note from the Boss. (I know how that works here too, Joe).
I have heard from a few others  who can't confirm their plan , yet. Hopefully we'll hear from some of the "missing" folks soon.
