It was good until everyone else thought that they could have a Shamrock Shake. I have to drink them from a paper bag.

The LAST place in the World that I would ever order a burger is In/Out!  Absolutely horrible!  And wait time........ha........  that's a joke!  We have one just down the street from us and you can go there any time of the day or night and there is a line of cars a block long going thru the Drive thru.  Inside is even worse!
The Wife for some odd reason loves them but if I know she is going there for Burgers I pass and will make a fried Bologna sandwich instead!

Yesterday's lunch was a bowl of mussels and a Smithwick's. Today it was a ham and Swiss sandwich on rye with Batampte mustard, and a glass of milk..

The Bierocks are really popular. So popular they sell out too early...and I keep missing my homework assignment. Boo!

Instead I tried to stay out of McTrouble because I was having a fancy Lunch across the street...

Shhh...

It was the first time I had the tacos at Da Box...and I have to say I'd trade a few White Castles for a few of these...

Yes...I understand that everyone does not like them. I like them and so does my friend who joined me for Lunch while trying to quietly eat my tacos out of McSight...

Boxed lunch while working, oh boy! Or something. Processed chicken sandwich with American cheese, mayo and mustard, snack-size bag of regular Lays potato chips, apple, cookie. Good thing we have a water cooler in the booth or it'd be awfully dry.

United Airlines offers a Tapas box for Lunch that's like a big cocktail party (sans cocktail) that keeps goin' & goin' with what seems to be a hundred different items...

Hummus...olives...almonds...Pita chips...various crackers...cheeses...chocolate covered Acai etc I think I'd love it for Lunch on most any day.

Other than a Bierock in California there's always an option of the less known but very regional & indigenous hamburger for Tehachapi California...

I have to keep walking. I can't look at baked goods...

It was all over when this tray...

It was a wonderful old-school black & white cookie. Very lemony...

It did hurt my soul to pass a few other sweet classics...

Oh Rugala Rugala Rugala! (that's how Canter's spells it on the menu). It sucks to be full with all those tempting goodies calling me. I'll be back for all of you!

The gas pumps are DIY!

Good grief! I'd push my car home from New York vs. doing that myself!

We just roll down the window to say fill it up...(for about $.50 less per gallon) while having the oil checked & the windshield wiper fluid filled.

I ran into that a few years ago when in NJ

I got out to try to pump gas and was refused - was told in NJ there is no self service

It has been years since anyone has pumped gas for me - Ohio is almost exclusively self serve and has been for decades.  They're both legal -- but very very few stations offer the full service option

That's because in Oregon it's against the law to pump your own gas!

I think I was maybe six years old the last time I saw a full-service gas station. Not only do you have to pump your own gas here, they're all pre-pay.

Lunch today I'm putting together a plate of cheese, olives, sliced chicken breast, pickles, and crackers.

I'll be fine after a few donuts!

There was a Wolfgang Puck  Express on Sinatra Drive in <<<Hoboken>>> It didn't $urvive on $inatra Drive.

I celebrated Cinco de Mayo a week early due to a help! help! call from my sister in NJ.

After Desert Hot Hot Hot Springs we hit...

It was CROWDED like that both inside & out....

I went inside to be close to the action...

The closer I got to the action...more & more plastic utensils appeared. Fork that! Hey...don't call security!!

Ok I'll order...

One taco with cheese...one without cheese...

Extra chips...

For the long journey to crack the code of what's the secret to these...

Let the games begin!

By law -- Ohio law -- all service stations in the state must provide full service (pumping fuel) to customers with handicapped plates or cards.

I have seen many stations locally where there is no one around to provide said service - there's a clerk to take cash and sell cigarettes, snacks, and whatnot, but no one pumping other than customers.  So  - law or not, I don't think there is much compliance, at least not locally

If you've never tried to thin the guacamole with tomatillo juice.. give it a try. I'd bet my burritos (if I had them) that the unique entity that's not acidic lime juice and a big mystery is tomatillo juice.

I was devastated to miss Randy's Donuts. I had to race from Los Angeles to Tehachapi to LAX to catch a plan back to NJ. I'll be back to Cali in June with far less stress...since my Mother is doing so well.

Randy's & Du-Par's next trip. My sister is on notice. Help! Help! calls will go to voicemail or forwarded to my brother...next time.

Without...of course!

But forget it.  Next time you need to go to Langer's.

That's not good. I noticed it when I was spinning around a tight parking lot on my way to Canter's. Never heard a word about it before seeing it. I guess that's a reason!

Now I have to see to it that Canter's local history is documented in the Roadfood section of our Library.

We have those in NYC and sandwiches piled 5 miles higher at Harold's in Edison NJ.

What we don't have is a Jersey City sandwich & the corned beef sandwich at Canter's was almost exactly like another NJ sandwich of the past from an old local place called Royal Crest. The bread the corned beef & pickles brought back many memories.

I'd rather go to Langer's Deli.

I've been going to Canter's for more than 50 years.  If I want Jewish pastrami on rye.... Langer's!  Not only is the pastrami top notch, the rye bread is wonderful.  Double baked.  Semi baked before it gets to Langer's and then before serving.

The Johnnie's pastrami is totally different.

Greg...  more is not always better.

I was expecting a crowd at Tito's Tacos but it was any given Sunday and Marone! there must have been at least 25 people behind the counter/window very very efficiently churning-out so much food and the lines just kept on coming.

Most of the orders in front of me were HUGE. I talked to a couple in line (they were from NYC and recognized my accent) and we were all amazed by the crowd (we're people used to crowds) and very loyal regulars of Tito's Tacos.

We don't have anything like it at home...and I'll say this to the nay sayers (like Mar has always said)...there is a very unique factor to Tito's that inspires those people to form a constant line and wait wait wait... and you can recognize that if ever you're smart enough to visit. I can't even imagine how busy it was today.

I was also surprised at just how close Johnnie's Pastrami is to Tito's.

Isn't that funny?  Right around the corner.  They could share parking lots... but they don't.

Then there's Cinco de Mayo (not today) the restaurant that is sorta between Johnnie's and Tito's.  How does it survive?  It sits in Tito's original location.
I go there once in awhile when I can't park at Tito's.  It's different but I can't explain their food.  They have a huge menu and there's never a crowd.

I heard something I found quite funny while in line at Tito's one time.  The woman in front of me is on her cell phone waiting to get to the front of the line.  She says to whomever whoever she is talking to....   "I'm stuck on the 405 so I'll be late."
