Okay, okay. Mom drank her martinis on ice-me, when I drank them, ala Dad, the concoction was made with ice and then poured thru a strainer. The results were obviously cold. Always gin, by the way, never vodka. And lots of anchovy stuffed olives.

I'm a newbie also.  Saw that thread but also saw that it is rather out of the way and not very responsive to new members (typically only 1 or 2 welcomes, often by the same core people).  Seems like there should be a better way to do it.

I'm a newbie too!! But people haven't been too welcoming. *ahem ahem* ^^ not pointing any fingers but uhh.. its comforting to know that there are other new people too!!

I never understood this simile.  Once you've driven the snow it's not very pure?

I live in Orlando, Florida, but was raised in the NorVa area of D,C.  There was a small franchise of restaurants called :Steak 'n' Egg Kitchen.  It seems that one is still operating as "Osman and Joe's Steak 'n Egg kitchen, but I seem to remember there being quite a few of the small diners around DC and NoVa.  I even remember seeing one here in Orlando around 1993, but it's gone.  Can any one remember any of the originals somewhere near Arlington, and about what intersections they were near.  An old friend is asking me, and I really would like to give her an answer,  Thanks!

Hello everyone!
I am brand new to the message board/forum, and I wanted to let you know about me. I retired from a major airline 3 years ago, lived in the Orlando, Florida area, but moved back to where I am from. The Jersey Shore. I live in a Beach Town where Time has stopped in the 1950's/1960's. We have many Mid Century Modern Motels (or as we call it 'Doo-Wop') design. This town is called Wildwood. I guess it's true what they say... 'You always return to your roots one way or another'  I am of course a Lover of anything Mid-Century and My entire House is 1950's/1960's design from ceiling to floor including a Pink Refrig and a Aqua Stove (actually I have 2 refrig) the other one is Aqua. I collect original Aluminum Christmas Trees and now have 197 all sizes & colors with original boxes in my collection. Of course being a Flight Attendant allowed me to search the globe in search of more trees and other Mid-Century items.  I am very happy that I found this Forum and look forward to adding to the great reading on here.

Tarot was probably more precisely a teaching game (which distinguishes it from regular playing cards); at least the earliest (14th Century) decks seem to have been designed that way.

Welcome to the boards, here. I spent a long weekend in Wildwood last month. Had a fabulous time. We stayed on the north end of town at the Acropolis Oceanview Resort. The hotel could use some updating, but it was clean, and the pool was spectacular. I Started a thread on Wildwood in the "where to eat" forum. We had some really good eats, enjoyed the clean ocean water and white sand, and the family friendly boardwalk. All in all, a great get away.

RE: NEW POSTERS! Introduce yourselves! - Fri, 08/5/11 10:30 PM
Hello everyone,
I've been lurking around the site for a couple weeks now and have found a ton of useful information.  Before I go asking a bunch of questions I'll do my best to wear out the search function.
Having said that, is there any kind of different levels of search privelages that are allowed for members?  I've put in a couple words recently such as "sysco" and "cold table" that ended up giving me a error page and said I didn'thave proper permissions.  I tried the searches in individual sections and in the forum as a whole with the same results...
Is it something I'm doing wrong or are there certain words that are not allowed?

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Derrick.

Sorry, but I don't have the answers to your questions.

Start posting!

I've already found a bunch of answers for questions I never even tought of, but the searching problems are what is throwing me off.
I've read a bunch of topics that had the word "sysco" in them for whatever reason, so I know I'm not the first person to talk about it but for some reason I am unable to search the term...

Welcome to Roadfood!  This is sysco: http://www.sysco.com/  What were you looking for?  In order to minimize spam, some words "set off red flags" for the newer poster.  Sometimes you can get around them by putting extra spaces in your query.

Thanks for the help!  I'll give that a shot.
At the time I wasn't looking for anything real specific with Sysco.  Really I was just looking for general experiences and any helpful tips for anyone looking at using their services.  I may have had pricing questions as well but I quickly realized that those types of quesitons are pretty pointless due the differences(regional, volume, etc).  I've since located local(Seattle)Sysco establishmet so I can always give them a call with any direct questions.
I've got plenty of other things to worry about before I get into pricing questions, and I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.

Again, thanks for the help!

Any other Philadelphians here? I live in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia and I'm always looking for great food. I'm mostly into sandwiches, Chinese, Mexican, pizza, burgers ... not much into fancy restaurants.
Hopefully somebody can provide me with some hidden gems and I can do the same.

Hi, I am new to the forum and love to cook, eat great food, and learn about any foods I didn’t know about.  I run a small pizza stand at a farmers market it Dutch County, Pa.  My husband and I ran a Caramel Popcorn stand at different farmer’s markets for many years and ran a concession trailer at fairs and festivals around our area.  We also made kettle corn, sugar-free caramel corn, clear toy candy, brittles, fudge, cotton candy, drinks and other foods.  I also ran a funnel cake farmers market stand, with hand dipped ice cream, Mexican food, and drinks.  I look forward to learning more on this forum.
Thanks for the great forum!

Thanks for the welcome!  I do have some experience, but there is always more to learn.  I would be willing to help Newbies if there is something I know, once I learn my way around the forum.

Well it sure took long enough for the Roadfood Welcome Wagon to get here. I made a sandwich for lunch today and the bread that was delivered was stale. Next time get a wagon driver who isn't afraid to get up to the speed limit on the National Road.

Greetings, I'm a big fan of food. I enjoy different types of food of different genres, and continually would love to try them all. I am also physically active to balance out the two. I enjoy an authentic Phlly Cheese Steak while my stay over on the East Coast, and I prefer prefer Mexican and Italian cuisine over any other!

Not sitting in Sherriff Joe's place for sure!!!  LOL Been a very hard year for me. My brother passed two years in May and my mother passed away last May. Been busy handling the estate stuff. I finally have all of that taken care of!
The economy here in Wickenburg is terrible! So many restaurants are closing here it's unbelievable. Fireside, closed! Dunkin' Donuts, closed! Cowboy Cafe, closed! McDonalds, closed for rebuild! Haven't been able to find any work here for the last 6 months or so. Thank goodness my girlfriend has a steady job or we would certainly be on the street! My brother in Texas wants me to come live out there. He says that there are lots of jobs in the Dallas, Fort Worth area. I'm tempted to go but my G.F. doesn't want to go there.
My annual garden project is doing very well this year. Tomatoes are about 2 weeks out from the first harvest. Basil and cilantro have already gone to seed and are taking over the rest of the garden. The jalapeno peppers have yet to bloom but I am hopeful that I will get a good yield! I planted every thing I needed to make salsa but they all ripen at different times of the year. I'll have to can the tomatoes as they will not bloom in the heat of the summers here. If I can manage to keep them alive they will produce some very good late season fruit! In Alaska I had to worry about moose eating the garden, here I have to worry about the deer, cattle, rabbits, and javalina.
Ok all, I'm off again to go look for work! Wish me luck! Have a great day all!!

Glad you weren't a guest of Sheriff Joe!
Sorry to hear about your Brother and Mother.
They need to put a sign on the outskirts of Wickenburg that reads, "Wickenburg - The Town the Bypass Killed"
The restaurant Industry in the Phoenix area has been picking up. Some close and more open but the dynamic creates new jobs all the time. Would your G.F. consider Phoenix?
Suggest you send your Resume along with a cover letter outlining your experience to Howard Seftel, the Food Editor of the AZ Republic Newspaper. He knows EVERYONE in the Restaurant business in AZ and what's going on, who's hiring etc. howard.seftel@arizonarepublic.com
