Re:Dan Evins, founder of Cracker Barrel is dead.
Last February, we stopped in Jackson TN to visit the home of railroad engineer Casey Jones, very nice museum. It's located in what they call 'Casey Jones Village' which is a small complex that includes several other businesses. One of those is an interesting place called the Old Country Store. Chatting with a police officer in the parking lot, he told us that this place, with its porch and rockers etc, was the inspiration for Cracker Barrel (also known as Old Country Store), and that Cracker Barrel had gone to this restaurant and asked if they could borrow the concept and the name. Supposedly they said yes, with the condition that there would never be a Cracker Barrel in Jackson.
Then the officer shook his head and said, but what do you expect, we got one anyway.
I'm no expert on Cracker Barrel food, but I don't remember ever being disappointed.
