Memphis on a Sunday

I'm sure Memphis has been covered and covered again and recovered here before, but before I start phoning every BBQ joint and rib shack in the city (and in West Memphis AR), can any of you good people tell me which of the great barbecue places around the town are open on Sundays?  I know that quite a few of the good ones aren't - the amazing Bar-B-Q Shop is not - but, sadly, Sunday will be the only day that I will have free on a forthcoming long weekend to go exploring and eating.  Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, my favorite Memphis bbq shop, Cozy Corner, is closed on Sunday.  But, I have eaten at A & R BBQ and Interstate BBQ on Sundays in the past.

I doubt that my favorite Memphis BBQ joint, Payne's is open on Sundays.

I would avoid Rendezvous and Corky's any day of the week.
 
You might want to consider Coletta's  for BBQ Pizza- they are open on Sundays.
 
I really wanted to check out Central BBQ, hopefully I will have the opportunity next year when I plan to revisit Memphis & Mississippi

Here's a couple that are open on Sunday.

It took me several years to try it but the BBQ Bologna at Central BBQ is now a must for me.
I like the hot sauce and slaw on mine. If you were to get only one item, this wouldn't be it but if you are sampling a number of items, I'd say give it a try.
If you have time, the biscuits, grits, eggs and country ham at Bryants for breakfast is my idea of a good breakfast.

Bryants and the Germantown Commissary are excellent recommendations.
 
 

I appreciate all the suggestions!  I see that Leonard's, on Fox Plaza Drive, is also open Sundays for lunch.  They were on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  Have any of y'all been there?
 
Interstate and Colletta's I visited in 2010 and enjoyed them lots.  A&R is actually a great suggestion, as I wanted to go on that visit, but one of our hosts finds its home neighborhood (Elvis Presley Blvd) too sketchy for visiting.  No problem for me taking a lunch on my own, though.  BBQ bologna at Central also sounds good.  Thanks, everyone.  Hopefully, between Gus's on Saturday, all this BBQ on Sunday and Bryant's for breakfast on Monday, we'll climb our blog back from #25 on Urbanspoon Memphis closer to the city's top ten.
 
Mbrookes, we're going to detour from I-22 over to Oxford and visit Phillips Grocery on our way up and then cut over to I-55; otherwise, we won't be in Mississippi long at all.  (It's a family reunion thayng, and the goal is to get to Memphis ASAP and maximize family time... not a *proper* road trip at all, y'see.)  This'll be the first Saturday in May.  Drop me a PM if you (or anybody else!)'d like to meet up!

Color me green with envy, it sounds like you are going to be doing some fabulous eating in Memphis.  Agreed, I have had no issues with going to A & R Bar-B-Q by myself.  Have a great time!

Just to follow up, I did not make it to Bryant's, nor to Willie Mae's Rib Haus in West Memphis.  I even phoned on Saturday to confirm they would be open, and drove out to find them closed!
 
We visited Leonard's, A&R and Central - not the original location, which had a line around the back of the building, but the second location, in an old Red Lobster on Summer(?) Avenue.   A&R was not bad at all, about as good as Interstate, I would say, and that bologna at Central really was something.  I enjoyed both!
 
 But Leonard's!  Holy anna, I had the "ribs & BBQ" combo with chopped pork and ribs, and that was a completely amazing meal.  Those might've been the best ribs that I've ever had, just perfect.  Plus, mustard slaw!!  This business opened in 1922, and the present owner, who became such in 1993, started working here fifty years ago.  Everybody should be singing this place's praises.
 
Other joints visited: Gus's, Republic Coffee, Boscos, Beauty Shop and Gibson's Donuts, plus Ajax Diner in Oxford MS on the way up and Klingler's in Birmingham AL on the way back.  Quite a good trip, with many good meals.  Now for four long weeks stuck back home in Atlanta before we make our way back to Brunswick and SSI again for our next family trip.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed Leonard's. When I went there a few years ago with the glee club, I opted for the buffet- unfortunately it was one of the worst roadfood meals I've ever had. Big lesson- order off the menu and not the buffet.

While many sings praises for my home town Milwaukee as a great Roadfood town (and it is), I think Memphis is one of the best I've visited for road food.
