Strangest Movie Themes - Thu, 04/19/12 12:22 AM
What's the strangest (or worst) movie theme you have ever heard? If done by someone prominent, even better. Here's two to start out with:

1) Charles Fox's theme song to the 1968 monster flick, THE GREEN SLIME (linking to a clip with both the beginning and end themes)

2) I happen to like the Burt Bacharach music and the Herb Alpert performance for the theme to the original James Bond movie version/debacle of CASINO ROYALE. Until you add in (I believe uncredited) Hal David's lyrics, that is.

Its not the strangest or worst, but But Bacharach's theme for The Blob is, thanks to you, now stuck in my mind.  Beware of the Blob!

Hard for me to recall "the worst".

For me, "the best" was Barry Levinson's adaptation of Malamud's novel "The Natural".  The self-hating critics despised it because Levinson changed Malamud's dark tale about moral failure into a hopeful fable about redemption.  As I had read the novel before I saw the picture I was shocked by the final scenes; I was delighted by Levinson's change in mood and theme.

It is my all-time favorite movie.  It has an amazing cast and breath-taking sound and music.  Turn up the sound and watch this scene which was both in the novel and the movie:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3w0FLxdEKk&feature=related .

Although it's been nearly 50 years ago, the first movie/soundtrack that came to mind was "Mondo Cane". Disturbing subjects accompanied by strangely appropriate music. The theme, repeated in different variations throughout the film, was recorded by many different artists and is better known under the title "More". Anyone else have memories of this movie? pb

Music makes the movies.
Funny how the music evokes all kinds of emotions but if you mute the sound it generally leaves you flat.
Horror films especially.
"Psycho's" music scared the pants off of me!

Yes, I had forgotten about this movie. I always thought the later recordings as "More" were weird in retrospect of the movie.
