When a trip falls through... - Tue, 06/26/12 12:03 PM
...what do you do?

I had plans to travel to Iowa City for a party this coming Saturday but unfortunately it's been cancelled, and the worst part is that I'd already lined up several RF-style places I wanted to check out.  It's not the end of the world and they're not so far away as to make a trip just for a couple of meals impractical, but it got me thinking about what others might do in this situation.

What would you do?  Would you wait and visit a desired restaurant the next time that another reason took you back to the area?  Or would you make the trip anyway?  Time, distance, and method of travel obviously have a lot to do with it and in this particular case I'm planning on making the drive at some time this year, whether by myself or with Mrs. SC.

No question, still make the trip.  Even without the party, there should be plenty of things to keep you entertained.  Any chance Hamburg Inn II is on the agenda? I am still kicking myself for not trying their pie.

I would still go! It's only a 3 1/2 hour drive.

Hey SC, If I was traveling by myself, I'd scrap it.  If the Mrs. was tagging along, I'd go.  But that's just me, since I travel by myself all the time for work.

Oh, the trip will definitely be made...just not this coming weekend.  Until the party was cancelled we were actually double-booked, so now we'll revert to our original plans.  Plus the host is thinking about still trying to set something up for later in the year so as far as I'm concerned it's just a case of rescheduling.

BB, The Hamburg Inn No. 2 wasn't part of the plan because my friend lives in North Liberty, although ironically when I was in Iowa City last month I was only a couple of blocks north of there.  The places I have in mind are toward Dubuque and the northeast, although if it opens early enough (the website either doesn't list the hours of operation or they're very well hidden) the Hamburg would be a possibility for breakfast.

Kland01s, you're spot on with the time estimate.  My trip home from North Liberty took just about 3-1/2 hours and that included a gas stop in Dubuque.

I'm one step ahead of you, WJ.  One of my intended targets lists an Iowa chop on the dinner menu and I've already inquired if it's possible to get it as a special-order lunch item, should my stop there occur in the middle of the day.
