State-shaped skillets
-
Fri, 07/6/12 10:20 AM
A Milwaukee-based artist has created these skillets for those who might want to cook with something a little different, and Wisconsin is the first one to be commercially available. I think they'd be pretty neat for cornbread! Brad

Michigan would be fabulous for making eggs and potatoes at the same time!

The $120 price tag is a little steep. But, it has to be very labor intensive to run so many small production pans. I'll keep my eyes open for PA. Brad, when is yours being delivered? EDIT" $550 Smacks for PA? I wonder if I can just purchase N.E.PA?

These are really neat and I like them a lot but at $2500 for my Texas skillet, I don't like them that much!

Illinois is $600 but as said, these aren't something you just whip up. If you notice most of them have only 1 available per state and it says something about the artist will contact you.

Regardless of what the artist calls it, the project is an art project, not a commercial project. She might sell a few of the Wisconsin skillets at $120.00, but I doubt there will be many takers for those that are north of $400.00 and if you look at the size of the ones for DE, VT, RI, etc., there's no practical use for them. What are you going to do with a skillet that's 2 in x 2 in. or 2" x 4"? On the other end of the spectrum, can you imagine trying to handle a skillet for Texas that measures 22' x 21" and weighs 30 lbs? You'd need the arms of Popeye to lift that thing. Look at the size of the handle compared to the skillet. There's a reason why someone like Lodge hasn't undertaken something like this.

Do they have to be practical for cooking for us to find them neat? They're art pieces, not everyday kitchenware.

Out of all of the State pans...I think Michigan is the winner for aesthetics.
