I am getting very excited for this tour!!!!!! Dr. Dawg is a great addition, have heard its the best from their neighbors next door( Robert Haack Diamonds-friends of mine) Where should we meet-kinda thinking that side of town-making it possibly the first or second stop. Benji's, and Kopps is near there, too.just thinking-however the Kopps thing should be last, I guess.Let me know thoughts!

If we're looking at places to meet, and want good AM places, I suggest (in order of my faves):
Stone Creek Coffee
Sven's Cafe
Hi-Fi Cafe (across from Honeypie)
Alterra Coffee
Anodyne Coffee

There's also a $tarbucks on the corner of KK and Oklahoma, but who cares?

Also, as far as non-food stops go, further up KK, where it turns into First Street, is Comedysportz. They have 3 PM  Matinee shows for $7.50. If we notify them ahead of time, it's possible we could get a group discount, and also that they might tailor a show if we mention we're foodies on tour, and some are from out of town.
Laughter is good for the digestion.

What ever is last, we'll eat the least. Count us in for 3: Nina, myself, and Sam-the official Contingent mascot. Sam will be our driver. While Sam drives, Nina and I are in the back seat with our heads out the window and our ears flapping in the breeze. For those who've never met Sam, he's very fond of Wisconsin cheeses.

Mr. Maki and I might have to duck out for this trip.

As some of you may know, Mr. Maki writes short stories.  He's had a dozen or so published in small literary magazines and he recently had one accepted into Graze Magazine, which, ironically, is a literary magazine for food-related stories.  They're local and they also host events at restaurants and other food-related places, sometimes with food writers, chefs and other people in the culinary world.

The release party for the magazine is October 20th and he wants to go.  If it was any other boring old literary magazine, I (and probably "we") wouldn't bother going, but, as you all will probably understand, a food magazine party is a little more interesting.

ETA: You can preview part of his story here- they only put the first 10 pages up because the issue hasn't technically come out yet.  Unfortunately, his story is on the last page, so it gets cut off mid-sentence.

Congrats Mr. Maki!   That magazine looks to be right up my alley, and I need to find out what else happens in the grocery store   Guess I'll have to pick up a copy.  Are breadcrumbs really in the baking isle?  I guess some people put them in stuffed peppers that are then baked, or are a topping for mac & cheese that is then baked.  Best I can come up with.  LOL.

Looking forward to the itinerary on this tour, it's going to be a good one.  Thanks Ann and Aimee for working on it.

Ann, I hope you don't make Dr. Dawg one of the early stops. I can't get up to Milwaukee until 2 PM or so and DD is the one stop I'm really interested in. Fall Tour Saturday October 20, 2012 2012/10/02 01:44:45
I found a breakfast place for the early birds. They open @ 6:30AM & have several Benedicts to choose from as well as anything else you could want for breakfast. Menu.

Zak's Cafe
231 S. 2nd Street
Milwaukee, WI 53204

The tour officially begins @ 9AM in Groppi's Parking Lot. It is here that Itineraries & maps will be handed out. Place your bets now on who will the the last to arrive. (this is not a dig @ anyone, I haven't been sleeping lately, gamblers, so it's anyone's game right now)

Groppi's Food Market
1441 E Russell Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53207
Click me for a brunch menu (if you scroll down enough)

Next Stop: Honeypie Cafe
2643 S Kinnickinnic Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53207
Click me, you know you want to.

But wait! I have an idea!

Since both breakfast places look good, how about we split up into groups, (Hence my alter ego up above : "Half you go this way, half you go that way!") purchase agreed-upon items, and bring them to a central location and share them? Oh & did I mention the central location has a Farmer's Market that's open (allegedly, I gotta call them tomorrow) until the end of October? I didn't? Well, now you know.

It's just something to think about. Certainly, if people want to shop @ Groppi's they are welcome to do so. But this would be something different & we really need to enjoy the out of doors while we still can. Think about it, and think about what you'd want at both places. We can talk about it more in person, but you guys were tired of doing th same old thing, going to the same places we always go. The point of this tour was to broaden our horizons & get us out of our comfort zone (Jake's in my pajamas. *cough*).

In case anyone is hungry by then:  11:30-ish
Riviera Maya
2258 S Kinnickinnic Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53207

Then a lovely tour of a local distillery...did I mention it's FREE???!?!?!?!   --First tour begins @ 1pm, we're going for it!
Great Lakes Distillery, LLC
616 West Virginia Street
Milwaukee, WI 53204
Any other pumpkin fans here?
For $5 you can get samples. Not a requirement, just something good to know for those who don't click on the links.

Then a trip to Glendale, for some GREEN RIVER, oops, I mean hotdogs & such. Carolina Bob, the plan is to be there by 2:30pm to meet you:
Dr Dawg
6969 N Port Washington Rd
Glendale, WI 53217

Then Ann and I have planned a surprise stop.  All you need to know is--it's back on the South Side & we need to be there by 4ish.  You. Will. Love. It. No bribes will be accepted.

After that: Ginger
235 S 2nd St
Milwaukee, WI 53204

And finally, dessert at a new place: Babe's Ice Cream
2264 S Kinnickinnic Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53207

(unofficial end to every tour is Kopp's on 76th & Layton)

If there's any place not included on this tour, please post it in the Spring 2013 Milwaukee Tour.

I wouldn't feed their kringle to my dog. Or to my mother since they couldn't tell me whether or not there was walnuts in something.

Chicken and waffles is listed on the menu but there doesn't seem to be any kind of a day/date restriction.

However, I noticed this:

**Biscuits & Gravy** $8
_Two homemade biscuits literally enveloped in andouille sausage gravy and topped with an over easy egg._
