The Spam Hash would be fine, cut in smaller pieces. The Spam is salty and would fit right in..................

A friend in the Virgin Islands, Bruce Kimmelman, was the Spam supplier (Schaefer beer, too)  in the area and one of his party hors d'oeurvre was Spam cubes sauteed in Cruzan rum and served on toothpicks.

Good! And good for you.

Schaefer, (was) the, one beer to have when you (were) having more than one.

ALL of us love Spam, right?

No, as it should be the same price as potted meat. Instead, it's the same price as quality bacon and sausage.

The last time we had Spam was perhaps 12 or so years ago - it was sliced very thin and fried until it was crisp - much like bacon.  As I said it's been a long time and I can still remember it being very salty.

I discoverd Spam in 1979 at a bridal shower. Someone's Mother cut it up in cubes, put it in a crockpot with BBQ sauce, and we ate it. i thought it was pretty good as an unsophisticated palate can. Our best friend, Roy, loved Spam fried, with melted American cheese on toast. We, about two times a year, have a "Roy"sandwich, as he died at the age of 40 (13 years ago in a fire)

The last time we had Spam was perhaps 12 or so years ago - it was sliced very thin and fried until it was crisp - much like bacon.  As I said it's been a long time and I can still remember it being very salty.

They make a low sodium one now along with a bunch of other varieties.
Varieties
There are several different flavors of Spam products, including:
Spam Classic – original flavor
Spam Hot & Spicy – with Tabasco flavor
Spam Jalapeño
Spam Less Sodium – "25% less sodium"[
Spam Lite – "33% less calories and 50% less fat" – made from pork shoulder meat, ham, and mechanically separated chicken
Spam Oven Roasted Turkey
Spam Hickory Smoke flavor
Spam Spread – "if you're a spreader, not a slicer ... just like Spam Classic, but in a spreadable form"
Spam with Bacon
Spam with Cheese
Spam Garlic
In addition to the variety of flavors, Spam is sold in tins smaller than the twelve-ounce standard size.
Spam Singles are also available, which are single sandwich-sized slices of Spam Classic or Lite, sealed in retort pouches.

Rumor has it that they're coming out with Kosher Spam!
I'll keep you posted.

Back in the days of canned bacon, we'd take a cple of those along as well as cans of Spam on long overnight boat trips.  The 2 made it to almost every meal in one way or another

Imagine my delight when on a training mission to Pearl Harbor when I chanced to have breakfast at the McDonalds there on the pier and they had Spam and eggs. Of course none of my contemporaries partook, but what the hey...used to eat it for midrats on good old Archerboat.

I wonder how or why Hawaii's love of Spam came about?!

World War II. Lots of Spam there, and left over after it ended.

That's exactly correct Michael. In fact there was a recent episode of DDD that mentioned just that very fact. Whereas the rest of the world has moved on to other delicacies, Hawaii remains steadfastly in love with spam. The spam sushi in my book is definately over the top.

I have a couple of friends who love Spam musubi.

I've grilled and smoked it, and it does come out quite salty.  Same with vienna sausages.

I love Kenji. He is so much fun!

I would try a few of those with Pork Roll instead of Spam.

Maybe the Luther Burger with a Doughnut Plant doughnut variety that matches the wonderful goodness of Pork Roll.

I think I would try the Double-Down with Pepper Jack... but I don't know about adding bacon. Maybe something else.

I've never had Goetta (it sounds like it would be a good DD from the Melton's report) or Spam Treet or Scrapple.

When I was serving in Vietnam getting a can of Spam was like getting a bar of Gold!  If you didnt lock it up or hide it somewhere it would get stolen!
Sooooooooo  many good ways of eating it!  Fried, mixed with scrambled eggs, rolled up inside a flour tortilla etc etc or right out of the can plain!
Anyone who claims to eat canned potted meat, liverwurst or the like should not at all be critical of Spam!
Spam is also especially good topped off with a huge chunk of melted cheese.

Having been in the military, Spam or comparable alternative was easy to bring on field exercises. We stored a hot plate in our maintenance van to cook with. I cooked ramen, added the Spam and canned cheese spread.
I recently introduced my 12 y/o daughter to this dish. It did not go over well.
I guess for me, it just brings back memories to make that dish.

Musubi is not only made with Spam in Hawaii - - if you go to the local 7 / 11 or most quick shops, you will find Musubi - - rice and meat wrapped in nori (seaweed), sometimes sprinkled with or rolled in Furukaki powder....  Spam is the most popular, but you will see it with hot dogs, portuguese sausage, chicken katsu (breaded with panko), tonkatsu (Pork), and grilled chicken....
Recently, Jack in the box started selling a spam, egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich - - a new best seller...
I especially like to slice it thin and fry it until crisp....  MMMmmmmm......

I've not seen the JITB version yet in our area yet. They must be test marketing it up in your area.

Don't pack your car for Colorado - - I don't think that they have the spam croissants there...  Before Colorado, I lived in Hawaii for 25 years, and I was referring to the JITB's there....  I still read the Honolulu newspaper every day on line...

In reality, I am now in Denmark, WI - - about 15 miles South of Green Bay, and I cannot change my location in my profile for some reason....

You got that right!!!  I am within striking distance now - - it got pretty grim here after SB XLV - - but I still have fun flaunting the Black and Gold in enemy territory!!!!  But this is going to be our season - - Stairway to #7, for sure.....

Ever since I read about the JITB Spam Croissant, I have been craving one - - I can't imagine a better combination of flavors....  My Wisconsin grandkids were in the Islands for 10 days in July, but they couldn't figure out how to bring one back for me....  I told them that if their great grandmother figured out how to carry 5 pounds of Isaly's chipped ham to London when we lived in the UK, they should have been able to do one little breakfast sandwich!!!!!  Sigh.......

No, you pop off the top, cover the opening with your fingers, lean over the side of the boat and rinse the can by swishing it around in the lake water, drain off and eat!

Now we know why Foodbme post so few fishing and cooking fish posts......one whiff of the Spam-infused water and those fishies take off looking for someone to throw over the rest of their Big Mac.one way or another.

underwood was/is the brand for canned liverwurst. my mother fed it to us when we were kids.... don't know if it's still available, haven't seen it in years. it didn't taste bad, but it was probably loaded with preservatives....

not so much anymore... the last can of spam that i opened about 2 months ago had very little slime in it. i've also noticed that after frying a sliced can of spam that there is less grease left in the pan. so, it looks like hormel is making a better product these days, and also charging a lot more for it... around here, spam is almost $4 per can..

asian people that i work with tell me that all over asia, spam is a highly regarded product that is given as wedding presents and eaten on special occasions. one chinese guy i work with has a bowl of rice with 2 slices of spam for lunch several times a week.

and yet you eat liverwurst!  LOL

At least liverwurst doesn't come in a can.

I've seen Liverwurst in a can. Can't remember the brand though.

Probably, a German Import.

underwood was/is the brand for canned liverwurst. my mother fed it to us when we were kids.... don't know if it's still available, haven't seen it in years. it didn't taste bad, but it was probably loaded with preservatives....

Now I remember that liverwurst in a can! I probably ate some as a kid, too. Thanks!
