~ My ROKU box... - Sun, 08/5/12 10:51 AM
I've had the cable cut for the better part of a year and relying strictly on my Roku WIKIPEDIA media streaming device.
I'm wondering if I'm alone ...
 ~ Do any RFr's have a Roku ???
~ What channels do you subscribe to ???
~ What free channels do you enjoy (especially re: food) ... (Alton is on a Food Channel feed from time to time).
~ What private channels have you found  ???
 ~ Etc. ???

Roku has been my favorite toy for a couple of years now.  I don't do many channels, just Netflix, Amazon, and Pandora as I almost only watch movies.  I still have DishNet but sometimes wonder why.

Netflix is the channel that gets the most use. Crackle is a good channel with free movies, but there are limited sponsor interuptions. Pandora is used for music. I've tried some of the foreign channels, trying the Bollywood experience, but haven't had much luck.

We have one, and use it a lot. Mostly Amazon Prime and Netflix.

We recently got one having moved aboard our boat full time.  It's linked to our Verizon Mifi so it can get expensive if we're on it a lot.  It's still cheaper than installing sat tv though.  My wife mostly uses it for Netflix and surfs the free channels.  Works great.

Major league basebal works great on it. You can spend hours searching weird stuff. JasonTV is excellent for all kinds of stuff.

Here's one:
A CHANNEL I JUST DEVELOPED FOR A CLIENT
(Right now it is a private channel ... we'll be making it a free public channel in September)
I am realizing what a powerful video distribution tool Roku is becoming.

A lot of ISP's are capping monthly bandwith usage or starting to charge extra. For instance Comcast has a 250 gig monthly limit but is not enforcing it while the come up with "new" aka more expensive plans for what they consider high usage. People who stream things like a lot of blu-ray quality movies could run into these limits. Here's a couple of links you heavy streamers might want to check out.

And a handy guide for how much bandwidth is used for Internet activities.

I found the Roku website about 2 hours before reading your post.   http://www.roku.com/

I can't get cable, but I cut the satellite service ($89 per month) about 12 years ago. Renting DVDs was less expensive.  For the past 2 years I have been using a laptop connected to the TV for free movies & TV.

I'm excited that a ROKU channel I curated for a client is now in the Channel Store:  CSB Connections (today it is under NEW)
Or, simply hit: https://owner.roku.com/add/GOCSB
... if you are  ROKU user.

My son has the Roku box. I use the Apple TV box. On both you get Netflix if you subscribe. I use Netflix but haven't subscribed to Hulu Plus. I also rent movies from Apple iTunes. So movies, Netflix and YouTube get the most viewing on my Apple TV. It does make you wonder why you need cable TV anymore.
