Tastes change over the years. For example, I like to love spinach salad and spinach pie. Now, I don't like spinach at all. However, sometimes, I run across something which I used to love, but now I find totally disgusting. For example, in my younger days (up through college) I used to eat Chef Boy-Ar-Dee canned pasta. Last time I opened a can out of nostalgia, I put it in the pot, smelled it, and threw it straight into the garbage.

Is there anything you used to love to eat, but now not only dislike it, but can't imagine how you ever liked it?

It's usually the other way around. Many youngsters disliked veggies but as they got older they scoff them up.
As a kid, I had Jello in some form every day. As an adult, didn't eat it for about 40 years. Now as a Senior Kid, I've started gumming and swishing it between my teeth again!

I grew up liking liver, a lot, until I took the course to become an EMT and learned about its role in the body.  Then I couldn't touch it, for years.  Lately, been trying some once in a while, there is a local place that does a nice job.  The flavor seems just as good as I remember...but I'm still going slow....

Chun King Chinese dinners, and Chef Boyardee pizza mix.  When my dad left town on business, my mom and I made these dinners together, and would add our own extra toppings on the pizza.  I still see them in the grocery, but they have no appeal to me.

Frozen Mexican dinners, I think they were El Patio - compartments for Mexican rice, refried beans and a tamale with or a couple of enchiladas.  I remember them being very filling - tried one a few months back, maybe a different brand, the size seemed to have shrunk considerably, and wasn't very good.

CCinNJ Italian sausage

I used to like Italian sausage. Then, virtually overnight, I found that I did not like it; the spices were fine, but there was something in it that made it impossible to eat. Thinking it might have been just that one, I ordered a sausage and peppers sandwich from a place that I had bought from several times before; same reaction.

Weird coincidence time: within a month of this happening, the first turkey Italian sausages hit the market in New York. Those, I liked (which is why I didn't think of them before).

Same here with the Chinese dinners. I remember loving them as a kid, especially the crunchy noodles. It was a special "treat" for us. I bought one a few years ago, and found it disgusting. I guess when you can make something like that fresh and quite a bit healthier, even nostalgia for something can't make you want it anymore.
The pizza kits were our Friday night staple growing up, we were relatively poor and couldn't afford takeout pizza, or even real mozzarella to put on them, just the plain pizza kit. I will still pick one up probably once a year, and doctor it up a little, and it's fine with me. The brand we had was "Appian Way" back then, not sure if it's still around. Two pizza kits and some generic soda, and there was usually leftover pizza to have cold for breakfast on Saturday morning while watching cartoons on our 19" black and white tv.

Michael, We used to eat LB&O growing up in Bpt. I haven't had beef liver in years, because no one else likes it. My wife likes Chicken livers, I take the Chicken livers soak in milk, toss in seasoned flour and fry in olive oil. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. I sautee the onions when the livers about 1/2 done..........I have to eat it with Fried potatoes and of course ketchup....don't knock it, until you try it..........Bill

I do believe that it's not so much that your taste changes, which it does to some degree, but it's the manufacturer that changes the recipe little by little over time.

There used to be quality ingredients in the food we purchased, not so true anymore unfortunately. Couple that one issue alone with all the shortcuts they now use to get the product out faster. For example, why should a company slow roast chicken for hours when they can get almost the same taste by hiding the "almost" with cheap spices and save some time and money?

Even some of the fast food has changed for the worse. Just look at how bad KFC is now. Even some Pizzeria's have gone bad by using 2% milk Mozzarella instead of staying with their tried-and-true recipe. (that was in the early 90's in N.E. NJ too!)
You just don't mess with my pizza...... and nobody, I mean nobody, puts ketchup on a hotdog! LOL

I liked Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but now I find them cloyingly sweet.

Cloyingly! What a good word. Anyway, yeah, I feel the same way about Reese's. In fact, I feel that way about most of the "available at most grocery stores" chocolate bars that I used to like. I loved them when I was younger - even up to early college - but now they just seem so heavy and unnecessarily sweet. I can only handle a couple of bites of any given Hershey or NestlĂ© product before I start feeling gross. I'll still enjoy a bit of one from time to time, but I've started leaning more towards "healthier" and more organic candies (usually something fruit-based) when I get that craving for something sweet.

Candy I liked as a kid, (Charleston chew, jujubes, Turkish taffy, sugar babies, etc.) seems like the chewier, the better.  Some are still around, some not, but aside from the sugar content being a turn off, there's the fear of dental expenses for a popped crown, etc.

I remember in my late teens getting these Steak and Mushroom pies that came from England in a sealed metal tin. You took the top off with a can opener, popped it in a hot oven and about 45 mins later you had a full pie with crust and you could eat it right out of the pan(on a wooden plank), so no clean-up! They probably had a 1/2 ton of lard in them 3X the sodium limits,  and Gawd knows what else (They also made a liver and steak pie, but I would never touch that!.  Can't imagine eating one of those today, but I still make my own S&M pies from scratch

Same is true of prepared Chicken pies you find in the frozen food section.  Enough salt to be a city in Utah!  And it's just as easy to make from scratch for 1-2 ppl.

When I first became of drinking age (which was 18 in NY back in the day) I used to love to eat Slim Jims while sitting at the bar. One night, in one of those stupid barroom brags that gets us all into trouble before we learn to hold our liquor, I bet a friend of mine I could eat 10 Slim Jims. Around the 6th or 7th Slim Jim, they all came spewing out along with the several beers I had up to that point. Haven't had a Slim Jim since.

When I was a kid I loved going to our local theater and getting a big dill from the jar on the counter to eat during the movie. Almost never got popcorn, if there was a pickle available. While I won't tackle a whole one anymore, I do like them on my burgers. My son, however is a different story. Still regales everyone with his big pickle at Bob Sykes story, when given the opening.

I just read the ingredients on a slim jim.  What the hell is mechanically seperated chicken

Mechanically separated meat is meat that has been forced through a sieve under high pressure to separate the edible meat from the bone and inedible tissue. It's also referred to as "mechanically recovered/reclaimed meat" or "mechanically deboned meat." It formes a sort of paste-like meat sludge as it goes through the process that is easily mixed in with other fillers and emulsifiers to give the finished product a shape, such as a Slim Jim. Basically, it's the "pink slime" (although with chicken, it is referred to as "white slime") that you hear about people using in hot dogs and other sorts of highly processed meats.
