I did absentee ballot before I went for surgery. I figured even if I was able to get to the church today I probably shouldn't vote under the influence of narcotics. There might even be a rule!

I got there right at 7:00AM and it was the longest lines I have ever seen.  But, that may be because of the increased population of my hometown.

We voted about 10:30.  It took about 15 minutes.  Poll worker said it was a lull and that they had been swamped.  We celebrated our vote by driving up to Richmond for an early lunch at Chick-fil-a.

Polls opened in Minnesota at 7 a.m.  I got there at 7:15, and there was a long line extending out the door of the public school that's my polling place. But the line moved pretty swiftly and I was done by 7:50 a.m.  I was the 201st voter.

Voted at 6:30.  Then I had a meeting on the campus of Ohio St at the union.  This was a pretty poor idea by the planning committee as I think the union is the center of the election universe today.  This is where the Ohio St students are voting and the lines were incredible - through the building out the door and a couple of blocks down the street.  Both local and national news crews were there.  As I was leaving, I walked right past Jesse Jackon interacting with students and local government officials.  What a mad house but it is good to see the young people engaged.

We had early voting here for the last 3 weeks including being open on Saturday and Sunday. I'm looking forward  to seeing the total because it's been reported that the early voting was heavily used.

It was very convenient to request and receive absentee ballots by mail. We had 10-11 ridiculously long winded amendments on our ballot here in Florida. By receiving the ballots at home we were able to hopefully make a good decision.

I've voted in every election, local, county, state and national for the last 52 years.
Never once did I feel like I feel tonight. I'm Totally ashamed of what our political process has become. Negative Ads, Millions, if not Billions of dollars wasted on worthless advertising on both sides. Money that could have been spent on Humanitarian causes. Lies and more lies on both sides. Our election process is too long, too wasteful and too antiquated. The Electorial College needs to be eliminated. It was designed for the 18th & 19th Centuries, not the 20th & 21st Centuries.

Re:Hope You All Voted! - Wed, 11/7/12 9:30 AM
I walked down to the end of my street to the city hall in my little town of 1,400 and voted at 11:30 AM. There was no line and I was voter number 474. Actually I picked up card 472 but evidently a couple of voters didn't dwell over the judges and soil and water district representatives like I did.

As usual, turnout was heavy as Minnesota has led the nation in voter turnout the last 8 elections. We had paper ballots where you had to fill in a little oval next to the candidates name. When done you took your ballot and ran it through a tabulating machine. I enjoy the act of voting and the pomp that goes with it. I kind of missed standing in line. My wife voted earlier in the morning and did encounter the usual line. Being retired I know longer have to endure the after work rush or have to get in early before work.

Sounds like some of the tests I took back in high school.  We have legal-size ballots where a broken arrow (--  -->) must be filled in (------>) with a marker to select the candidate.

My younger daughter registered and voted exactly 1 month after her 18th birthday.  My biggest fear was that the machine would reject her ballot but she got the "Yay!  You did it right!" series of beeps.

I had to vote by provisional ballot since I am temporarily displaced by Sandy.  Surprisingly it was quick and easy.  I just hope the ballot finds its way to my county electors.

We used to have the paper ballots with the ovals. Then we went to the paper ballots with the broken arrows. Now we have the paper ballots with the ovals again.

I'm curious how absentee ballots work in those places where voting is done with a touchscreen.

I vote absentee in an area that has electronic voting at the polls, I get a paper ballot in the mail that I have to black out boxes and mail back in.

Thank you! I figured that was probably it, but wasn't sure if there was some way to do it online or not. I figure if you can file your taxes online, you can probably vote that way.

Although I moved to MD, it was too late, too close to election, to change voter registration. So, I voted one last time in DC. Which isn't too interesting, like being in a swing state where every vote counts. On average, In DC, 90% of vote to Dems, 8-9% to Repubs, and 1-2% to Green/Independents. It seems to be consistent.

But, I did get to vote for my (former) neighborhood commissioner, who has been fantastic since we worked to get her elected 2 years ago. she was a breath of fresh air to the neighborhood commission, and her work, in part, helped me sell my house, because the spotlight on the 'hood, was finally a positive one. The "best kept secret" was getting atttention from condo dwellers looking to buy their 1st home near Cap Hill, without paying exorbent Cap Hill prices. Not too mention the beautification projects, orange hat patrols, and other projects that has helped make Kingman Park a nicer place to live.

I date back to 1968 and haven't missed one yet.

BTW, Scorereader, Minnesota has a same day registration. All you would have needed was a neighbor to vouch where you lived or some other paper like a utility bill to prove where you lived. Minnesota had a 76% eligible voter participation rate this year.

I probably could have figured all that out, but have been innundated with a billion things to do that are associated with the move, my side jobs, and a kid on the way. But, yeah, I think I could have dealt with it better.

Maybe...maybe not. Each state has its own election laws and procedures and they vary considerably. Some people in your circumstances often just don't bother to vote. So kudos to you.

This year was the first time all three of my kids could vote. The five of us piled into my husbands car to go vote together. I was very proud. My youngest, Kyle, has been talking about being able to go vote for months now. When he came out of the booth he looked so pleased!

I was very happy and proud to stand in line with my 18 year old daughter, who cast her first vote. Not so happy that we had to stand for an hour and forty five minutes. Arrived at 5:45 PM and finished at 7:30 PM.  There were more people lined up when we left than when we started.

Wow, we didn't have such a long line maybe because we went so early because of work and school schedules. Thank you to you  and your daughter for waiting it out. I have taken my children with me to vote since they were babies.

Oregon is a vote by mail state and i received my ballot 2 and a half weeks before election day. I almost always vote early. I am proud to be an American and proud of my country . I have voted in every election since i was first eligible to vote and this year my younger son voted for the first time.

Agree Cosmos. We got no presidential ads but the three weeks after the ballots were mailed out were barrage of ads about battleground state representative races and nasty ads about the Washington governor's race
