Here's mine (even after considering the first sting-ray, the 1956 T-Bird, and the XKE):

I  loved the first Mustang fastbacks from the mid 60s. [link=javascript:] [/link]

I owned one exactly like this for several years, with the 289 4 Barrel carb and 4 speed..never enjoyed a car as much before or since...

The AMC Gremlin.  Of course, I was 11 years old at the time and had no concept of aesthetics.

Sat in one once.  It was surprisingly roomy and had the headroom I needed (and need).

I had a 1973 365 GTB Daytona Ferrari, a red convertible, I still dream about it. Single, living on the beach in Playa del Rey, Ca. Business owner...was the car a chick magnet? Uh, yeah, it was, even with me driving it! Said to beat Michael Hoffman to the punch!

Be nice.

"Funny now" isn't the issue.  "Knock your socks off when you first saw it" is.

Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 when she knocked Joe DiMaggio's socks off!  That reminds me of a cute story - true or not:

Marilyn"Joe, when I entertained the troops in Korea there were 50,000 people screaming for me at the top of their lungs.  You can't imagine that!"

Joe:  "But, dearest, I can".

This ain't mine, but it is a pic of the "coolest" vehicle I ever owned: a 1968 GTO in the then avant garde color of avocodo green:  (Saw that year and model recently; it was then a "mid-size"; today it seems HUGE!)

I was still in college and squeaking by in the summers working as a DJ in Orange, VA. Reynolds Buick always had one of these up front, facing Route 15. I would walk by it all the time and just wish.

I could buy one now but ... rear wheel drive is the last thing I need. Still...

Excellent choice, Jim.  I'd love to own a '63 or '64 Riviera someday.

Funny, I can't really think of an answer to your question.  The cars (and trucks) I really like are ones that I was either too young or not enough of a gearhead to notice when they first came out.

I'm just asking what "snapped your neck" when it first whizzed by.  For me, it was an XKE on the corner of S. Wade and E. Beau in Washington, PA.  I thought the freaking aliens had landed and disguised their rocker as a car!

MetroplexJim...  Here is a rear view of my first car a pseudo-GTO.

It had just been involved in a hit and run and I wasn't driving.

1969 Pontiac Tempest purchased brand new for $3,000.  It was a light metallic green and oxidized something awful.  It was also a lemon having 3 different engines in it the five years I owned it which is why I had it painted yellow.

Mar, you reminded me of prices.  Mt 1968 GTO was $3,200 brand new.  And a four-function Monroe Calculator then cost $1,200!  (They were half the size of a Sampsonite attache case and also did square roots!).

I remember sitting around back then with fellow engineers talking about the unlikelyhood that a hand-held calculator would ever cost less than $100.00.  Idiots, everyone of us.

How about the fact that an i-Phone has more computing power than the Apollo Program?  Or 60" flat screens < $1,000!

In 1993 I was the "go-to" place to watch the game with my state-of-the-art $1,700 35" CRT Mitsubishi TV!  Finally set it on the curb (took a hand truck; damn, it was heavy) a few years back and the neighbor kid snagged it for his video games.  It was on the curb again last week!

Hmmm...you're close.  I remember when the neighbors' oldest son bought a black '75 Camaro either new or slightly used; it was my first up-close-and-personal experience with that body style so I guess that and the '59 Cadillac would be my answer.

I got a 2013 CTS V Coup at the end of August, Black Diamond, 556 HP, it is a true beast whrn you put the pedal to the metal, handles as good as a Corvette and can outperform most of them.

I clearly remember seeing the 1968 Corvette for the first time, parked at a curb in its bright metallic blue glory.
Soon after I saw a Lotus Europa - must have been quite rare then, more so in the middle of Kansas, where it was attracting a crowd. So tiny and so low, it looked not of this earth.

Brad...  Added Mag Wheels, Air Shocks, the right hand side mirror and the mud flaps.  The department store where I sold coins and candy also had an auto department.

How did we ever survive without right hand side mirrors?

I was part of the Van Nuys Boulevard car crowd and also did car rallys.

My brother had a Toronado, forgot the year, but it was a beauty.  455 with front wheel drive, this car screamed.  The big deal back then was no hump on the floor(FWD).  All front end, silver with a black vinyl top.

He got rid of it because it was killing him on gas.....at 1970's prices!

I'll take one with the round headlight lids and a supercharger, please!

I was born in 1955 and all the cars I consider milestones of car lust (most of them already mentioned here) were around before I really discovered cars in my early teens...just in time for the 1970 Camaro/Firebird, and the Barracuda/Challenger. These were real-life versions of what my classmates and I were scribbling in our school notebooks!
Then there were the Italian supercars of the time, like the Lamborghini Muira (http://www.totalheadturne..com/details.php?Id=481) and the DeTomaso Mangusta (http://www.lotusesprittur..._Tomaso_Mangusta.htm). Wouldn't own one even if I could, but Holy Shamoley, just LOOK at them!
