Poverty Pete Michael, One of my oyster dozens will consist of 13, correct? Of course. Who ever heard of a dozen oysters or clams that didn't number 13?

years ago I went to the now gone Oyster House in Pensacola. My friend and I each ordered a dozen oysters. Someone must have been bad at math because we each counted 15 on our plates! It's my friend Sterling's car----he collects them as a hobby. But I'm sure we can arrange a ride! Poverty Pete Michael, One of my oyster dozens will consist of 13, correct? EdSails, now that it's not a secret, I'd love to go for a ride in your car.

They were always served in the shell on pewter plates with containers of catsup and horseradish for the customer to mix. Oh, and a Pearl beer was always my drink.

Interestingly, the place in Pensacola did something similar. They brought a tray with horseradish, tiger sauce, tabasco, capers, chili sauce, lemon and several other items so you could make your own cocktail sauce. Yeah, Some of the older Oyster places still have 'oversized dozens' served...but anyplace where the 'bean-counters' are in charge, you can count (pun intended) on the numbers being exact as a reaction to "Truth in Advertising" !! It has been a long time since I have enjoyed any really fresh Seafood....and frankly any really good BBQ either. So The weekend will be a main meal focus for me...Ice Cream is tastie, and I love a good Pie...but I am ready for Salt-water flavored critters and Lots of bark-Encrusted Pork. A N D, I will try very hard to participate in the Friday nite late-nite philosophical discussions in the Bar at the Hotel. I think we may stop at Big Bob Gibsons on Sunday on the way home. Has anyone visited the reopened "Henpeck Market" in TN recently? I heard is was not even close to the original when it reopened...but maybe they are back on Track. it would be an early breakfast stop for us on the way down on Friday. if not it will be a Petro Brothers Iron Skillet CFS and Egg Breakfast for us!!

Al, Yes, I've been to Henpeck recently. Just remember it as it used to be. Don't stop. Instead, go down three more exits, and get off at the exit for Stan's. Don't go to Stan's. Take a left and go to the end of the road, about 5 miles. Have your breakfast at Marcie Jo's. Much, much better.

Susan (IQ Diva) we are so pleased that you will be able to join us in Mobile. We have missed your company and that of your fine Husband, Paul, as well. I look forward to introducing you folks , in person, to many of the Roadfood members that you have shared messages with on the Internet. Glee Clubbers, You will find IQ Diva and Paul to be the very pinnacle of Southern Genteel Hospitality. They will add an air of Southern Comfort to the discussions (Pun intended).

Al: It is incredible the support the Roadfood group has shown the Glee Club event. With 23 attendees from many states with so much food experience. Personally Roz and I will be so happy to see many of our Roadfood friends again. We have enough picture takers to totally record the event. I am with Al on the briny creatures of the sea and very good Brick Pit BBQ. It has been a while for Roz and I to enjoy these fine treats totally unavailable in the food desert of Knoxville, TN. We will probably stop at Dreamland on the north side of Mobile on the way to the hotel. Gotta have some ribs to start the day off. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Mike, If the timing works out, I'm thinking of having an early lunch at Greenbrier BBQ, about 20 minutes into Alabama. The chicken and white sauce is outstanding.

Mike Depending on your arrival time in Decatur, AL, Big Bob Gibsons will be a possible stop for you. I know we will be heading south too early in the day for a stop there on the way down...but on the return trip, it fits the agenda well. Fairly easy to geto, from the freeway. (I'm with you one the "Meat" over Chicken choices.)

iqdiva and Poverty Pete! This might be the best group yet ! Since I won't be doing a formal trip report and won't be taking a whole lot of photos. I thought I would run down the list of non Mobile roadfood restaurants we intend to stop at...... There are no set plans and since we are neither Chi Town Diner nor Buffetbuster we won't be stopping at every place.... North Carolina Nana's Soul Food Restaurant- Charlotte (or) La'wan's Soul Food Restaurant- Charlotte Bridges Barbecue Lodge- Shelby * Long Creek Fish Fry- Dallas * South Carolina Mutt's BBQ- Greer * Georgia Mary Mac's Tea Room- Atlanta * Matthew's Cafeteria - Tucker Community BBQ- Decatur * Silver Skillet- Atlanta * The Varsity- Atlanta (at least a "walk in") Alabama Miss Myra's Pitt BBQ- Vestavia Hills (Birmingham) * Isaiah's Restaurant- Montgomery * * - definite stops

What's the interest in a shore-drive from Mobile to the Pensacola shore area Saturday morning and lunch time? This could include a breakfast stop and maybe some casual seafood snacking on the shore drive near Pensacola. We aren't 'crack'of' dawn folks after the Friday night activities, but a morning ride with some white sand and warm water wading might be fun...then some more fresh shellfish and a combo Shrimp cocktail and big Bloody Mary sounds good to me .???

Al: Roz and I have been to Peg Leg Pete's a couple of times and had good food each time. That is a mighty tempting good ride for some good food and wade clear water on a white beach. In the meantime, I gotta run the dog down to the vet for a boarding spell while Roz and I run down to Orlando early AM for a few days to one of her meetings. Gonna meet TTM there. Paul E. Dale, I am thinking more of a 9 AM-1 PM sort of ride. I don't want to wear folks out before the Saturday evening Brick Pit meeting. I'll go where ever the group wants to go for a 'brunch....Other than some of the places along Pensacola Beach and the freeway quick-stops, I am not that familiar with the Area. We did visit the Naval Air Museum a couple of years ago and enjoyed that.. Same with the Battleship in Mobile Bay. Just thinking of those sunny beaches warms my winter-gripped heart a bit .
