Ketchup on cheesesteak request causes ruckus - The Denver Post
" ORLANDO, Fla.—A customer's request to put ketchup on a Philly cheesesteak caused a ruckus in an Orlando Subway shop.
Sandwich maker Lawrence Ordone told customer Luis Martinez that Subway doesn't have ketchup when the order was placed on New Year's night. There are differing accounts on what happened next, but Orlando television station WFTV ( http://bit.ly/10YezGf) reports Ordone lost his job.
Ordone says he told the customer he's "never put ketchup on anybody's sandwich." He says Martinez got "mouthy." Martinez denies that, but Ordone admits he flew off the handle at that point. "
continued.....
Several things are wrong with this story, first being why go to a Subway, and second, why order a Cheesesteak, of all things?

Right on both counts.
On a slightly different course - here in the South we have some  great BBQ places to enjoy - and they have  excellent sauces to go with it - however - we have a coworker that insists on ketchup on her BBQ sandwich and several of my other coworkers swear they're going to smack her the next time we bring in BBQ and she does it again.

Just trying to Catchup on some posts and saw this one. What's wrong with Subway, I get a Italian B.m.t sub it has Pepperoni, Genoa Salami, Black Forest ham, Jalapeno Jack cheese, lettuce, spinach, banana peppers, tomatoes, olives,  bells pepper slices, purple onion slices, cucumbers, pickles, Mayo, oil and vin, salt and pepper on a fresh made Italian herb and cheese hoagie roll .................All that for $5.....You must think everyone has a Italian deli on every corner in America,,,,,,,,,Subway does a good job with great prices, I guess it takes care of the 98% like me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, pnwc

And to think, Subway started as a small shop off Park Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut. But to stay with the cheesesteak, Subway's version isn't bad at all -- except they don't have grilled onions.

Because no place in my area has cheese steaks and we don't have any other sub shops other than Subway, Jimmy Johns and Jersey Mike. If I lived in Chicago (45 miles away) there are many legendary sub shops but I have no clue if any serve cheese steak.  We do have a Portillo's a mile away and you better darn not dare put ketchup on a Italian Beef.

Hey Bill, going back when they first started Pete's Super Submarines, now Subway. They brought in fresh bread daily, sliced out a wedge down the length of the sub and layered the meat, cheese and topping on top of the bread. they would then put the wedge back on top. I'm not sure what they do with their bread, I agree it could be better...............pnwc

What's wrong with it?  Well at least your BMT is made with pig, all of their other "meats" are made with turkey bone scrapings.   Their "ham", their "bacon", their "salami", their "bologna"
all fake.    Cheap/Slimey sliced 3 weeks ago "meats" do not a sub make.   Their lettuce has been ran through some nasty tasting chemical wash to preserve it in a bag way longer than natural.    Subway is not food, it's a industrial plant.

What do you mean everyone doesn't have an italian deli on the corner?  Seriously?   None?  The only place to go is real Italian, or one of the smaller chains like Primo Hoagies.  Come on, I'm out in the boonies and there's a dozen places to go in a 10 mile area.  You can get real quality deli meats, real fresh bead   (not wet socks) and real fresh produce.  All sliced today for $5 to $9.   Who would spend $5 for trashy fake food???

If the meat isn't Dietz & Watson, Boars' Head or Thumann's, it's just not worth eating!

I didn't really want to start  a Subway bashing thread, only that I, like many, don't like the smell of that bread. We are lacking Italians, (and delis), out this way but do have several Sandwich Shops that can fulfill the need for  a cold cut  interlude.
Our bread's excellent as is the cheese. The cold cuts can be good but lack that "magic" touch that seems to exist in more Eastern locales.

If Subway was a house for sale...that smell would not be like the apple pie to seal the deal...and no Saint statue buried in the front garden would save the day.

I don't like the smell of the baking bread either... I also don't like the consistency of it. It's like thin squishy cardboard, but with less flavor than cardboard. Some of these fast food places, I'd love to be a fly on the wall for their focus groups, when they decide to go with the strangest choices for what they think people will like.

I'll put ketchup on a cheesesteak if it's not a very good cheesesteak. I'd rather have a smidge of A-1 on it though.
