Do you have some crazy concoction that you put together that grosses out everyone who sees it?
Like putting Gravy in your milkshake or making a Grits and Peanut Butter sandwich?
Maybe putting Ketchup on your Corn Flakes?
Then you need to go to www.wildrecipes.com
Some crazy combinations on there and you can post yours too!
Here's one from there that REALLY intrigues me AND I'm gonna try it!
Chocolate Gravy & Biscuits
I'm a born-n-bred Southerner and had the gall to haul off and marry a Northerner! I was raised on chocolate gravy and biscuits which is my most favorite food of all time. This stuff is the greatest! My husband won't even stay in the house when I make it or eat it though!
Biscuits:
1 or 2 cans of "whop" biscuits (these are the ones that come in the little tube at the store and you have to "whop" them on the counter to open the tube.) Bake as directed.
Chocolate Gravy
3 tablespoons of flour
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
4 tablespoons of granulated sugar
2 cups of milk
2 tablespoons of butter
1 teasoon of vanilla
Mix dry ingredients in shallow pan on stovetop until they're completely combined. Add milk and stir. Cook on medium to medium high heat until it bubbles and thickens. Add butter and vanilla. Stir. Chunk up biscuits and pour chocolate gravy over the top. Enjoy!
Oh....and you'll need a bucket....if you like it as much as I do, then you'll eat till you explode!!!

A friend had a soda fountain in her house.

She thought it was awful that I liked Coke syrup on chocolate ice cream.

I've posted it here a year or so ago but I also do an apple, green chili bread pudding which is a dessert.

I know sooner or later someone might say "ooooohh.....I've been making that for years and it's delicious" but I found this recipe and yikes...

Hawaiian Island Salad

2 3-oz. packages cream cheese, softened
Kool Whip
1/3 cup Miracle Whip
Marshmallow Cream
1 8-oz. can pineapple tidbits, juice reserved
3 5-oz. cans chunk chicken, drained
1 8-oz. can mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup blanched, slivered almonds
Dried cranberries
1 1/2 cups halved seedless grapes
In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Mix in Miracle Whip and pineapple juice, and add the Kool Whip and Marshmallow Cream according to taste, until smooth and creamy. Stir in pineapple, chicken, oranges, almonds, grapes and cranberries until evenly coated. Chill until serving....or run away fast.

The chili or pepper diad with chocolate is a long established pairing. My MIL does that with her chocolate cake with a tiny touch of red pepper. I've also seen it done with bbq sauces. One of my  ingredients is instant coffee after the sauce is simmered. Grape soda and jelly as an ingredient in Mariana and BBQ sauces as well.

My introduction to TN Southern down home cooking came with being served a beautiful dinner salad only to have my future MIL come back with a gravy boat filled with hot bacon grease and pour it all over. Normal to them, but plenty more surprises followed over the years. And they think those of us down here eat and do strange things?

Equal amounts of Heinz Chili Sauce (in a bottle like ketchup) and either grape jelly or cranberry sauce in a crockpot with your favorite meatballs (frozen ones will do in a pinch) Serve over rice or noodles.

Brains & Scrambled Eggs  (my version of the Scrambled Brains on the website):
This was what my Mother would cook occasionally when I was a child that I loved to eat.  It was always pork brains, cut in small pieces and fried with scrambled eggs, and I liked to eat them with catsup on them.  If I came across some pork brains today, I would cook and eat them this way in a heartbeat!  Yummy!

Call me inhumane, but when I run across a wild recipe, I don't let it run free. I capture it and place it in a photo album that I use for the purpose, and keep the recipe around. They eventually become domesticated.

Peanut butter and onion sandwiches. The peanut butter keeps the onions from messing with your breath and the onions keep the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth. Additionally, it tastes great, it's good for you, it's filling and it's cheap.

Re:WILD RECIPES!!! 2013/03/26 19:37:39
i make hot dog spaghetti....saute 1 onion, 1/2 green pepper in a bit of olive oil. Add 4 good hot dogs( we use Usingers or Hebrew National) cut in coins. Add 1 can chopped tomatoes. Then add spaghetti noodles, broken in half. Stir, cover. Add tomato sauce as needed( 2 cans) to keep concoction moist while noodles cook. Season with salt and pepper.Bob was horrified the first time Mom made it- he loved it. I horrified Bob's family the first time I made it.They loved it.

I love tomatoes, but my grandmother made one dish a lot that always creeped me out... tomato aspic. Basically tomato Jell-O. She'd serve it with lettuce and cottage cheese.
I might be inclined to try it now, but it would take a lot to overcome the creep factor instilled in me in my youth.

Down South, we put mayo on one slice of bread, peanut butter on the other slice, then fill it up with sliced apples or bananas. makes a great sandwich. Pineapple sandwiches are good, mayo only, don't care for peanut butter with pineapple..
