Fast Foods Gone Global - Sun, 04/28/13 5:30 AM
The Travel Channel had 2 shows on today about Fast Food, (NOT Street Food) in Europe & South America. They were about how US Fast Food Chains like McDonalds, KFC, Subway, Dominos, etc have adapted their menus to the tastes of the countries they're in.
Very interesting. I thought many of the items looked better than what they serve here!
They also showed local chains in those countries. Some of them have started migrating over here. They looked really good.
They also did a separate show on International Street Food.

Have you eaten in a fast food restaurant in a foreign country and what did you have that you liked or didn't like?

All of the McDonald's global offerings are displayed & sampled during McDonald's Worldwide Conventions.

France has several excellent McSweets including...

Le Cheesecake...

Le Macarons...

Having lived in France for 7 years a team of wild horses could not drag me to a fast food place.

When I was first in England in 1987 (I was 16), the McDonald's there didn't have a contract with Coke.  They offered instead "McDonald's Cola," which I've always said tasted just like RC Cola.

I don't believe France was one of the countries in the show!
The shows were about not only US companies, but home grown chains featuring native fare. For example, an empanada chain in Colombia and a pommes frites chain in Belgium. I'm sure France has some homegrown fast food chains selling Baguette Sandwiches or Escargot To Go!
Hey, I think I might be on to something!!!
Would you be my Executive Corporate Chef???

OK Foodbme.
I'll be your corporate Executive Chef.  But could we call it "Escargot Toooooo Slooooow"?  And we have to employ my former neighbor in Hon-Hergies who makes the best frites on the planet.
But NO FAST FOOD! My French friends would burn me at the stake!  Or send me to the guillotine!

Unfortunatele lleechef, our world has shifted to a "Grab It & Go" World.
Quality French Food served quickly could make it.
Who knows, maybe some of your French friends might be our best customers!
If they complain, we'll just go to Italy and start a "Spaghetti on a Stick" operation.

I like that show, strictly from a sociological/anthropological view.

But, I can appreciate the sentiment regarding the fast food mentality.
