Gee, what a great idea! Don't you think that would have been done if it could be?

Foodbme:
The issue is that they sign in under a different name each time.  That name gets banned.  They sign in again using XYZ or whatever.  I have personally got rid of better than 100 kitchen peddlers.  Sometimes up to 3-4 per day.

You should be filtering the IP server address of the source, not messing with sign in's.

Different IP used each time. This is why they have been so hard to eliminate. If you search google you will see many, many forums in similar situation.

Any way to contact their server?

Bombard them with a nasty virus?

Keep their phone number busy so they can't get real calls?

Tell their mother?

Report them to the British authorities?

They are trespassing.

Quite frankly Mar, we are really getting tired of them as every morning I have to go through all post and threads to glean them of their nonsense.  They have zero chance of selling British kitchens in the USA.  I think they must have some type of automated device doing it because all of them have different ISP addresses and all advertise the same damn thing.

Not a bad idea.  What if everybody on Roadfood called them collect in England on pretense of a kitchen and then complained about their behavior.  That could possibly solve the issue.  A couple of hundred  thousand collect calls would probably get their attention.

I think ASP Playground 3x might support the ability to delete all messages with a specific string in it.  Their phone number or other contact info would qualify.
You'll see the question asked on the following page ... unfortunately as I am not registered on the ASP forum I can not see the specific reply.  Might be worth looking into though.
The ASP forum is ...
http://www.aspplayground....&searchterm=filter
Note that I've used "filter" as the search term to produce that page.

Why not restrict new members to moderator approved comments until they establish themselves like is done with link postings. Or restrict requests for membership until moderator approved.

Deleted ten kitchen peddlers today.  They have a new technique.  They stack them.  You delete one and you think you got them.  Right behind it is another and then another and then another.  Gotta be some type of automated device  with different IP addresses and different names.

Thanks to some who have flagged them.  It took me a while to fine them.

I flag them. Best solution might be to send a COD request to deliver it to my house at McMurdo Sound. And order the largest Sub Zero freezer they make.

This forum as well as perhaps thousands more are being flooded by the  UK kitchen spammers.  I usually delete about 8-12 daily and it is somewhat difficult as they stack their spams.  I guess I miss some as it is time consuming going through each thread daily.  As of this time, this forum as well as well as hundreds or thousands more are struggling with how to eliminate them.  Tony has suggested not allowing anyone on without permission.  That is difficult if not impossible to do because we have so many new posters daily.  Please bear with us as we try to resolve this issue.

Is the volume of new membership applications so large that it would be difficult to implement an introduction requirement that the applicant composes a couple of sentences or paragraph on why they would like to join and a bit about themselves for the account admissions moderatore to vet? That's done on a lot of boards. Most of these nusiances won't take the time to do that. Also some boards have a new member introduction area that is mandatory to post on after inital validation before access to general posting is allowed.

Is this possible?

There are some things that I believe we can do, however, the moderators do not have access to the inner workings of the forum and therefore lack the ability to implement or attempt some of the things that may rid us of this plague.

In the greater scheme of things, they are annoying but mostly easily ignored.

Putting in all sorts of "tech-TSA" devices is only gonna bring this place to its knees, and requiring folks to "prove" themselves by filing out an application to join will kill any new members, or at least most.

Think of it as you are walking through a less than stellar city seeking out the scrumptious place you have heard about.  A few beggars are crying "Baksheesh!..ALMS!".....Ignore

Alas, although they get nothing from the folks here ( I hope!!!!!!!!!!), it also costs them nothing to try

Those aren't high tech ideas  FCF, pretty much SOP on many boards short of DISCUS or Facebook log-on authentications which I would consider more TSA-like. It shouldn't really affect advertising or site ranking as traffic is pretty much the same since anyone has access to the pages without having to log in. As far as bringing this place to it's knees, the latest upgrade did a far better job then any authentication procedure. As a group, we're legendary for our inhospitable attitude to newcomers anyways. Curmudgeonous indeed!

Ya know.........although the "poster" is different, they all seem to lead back to the same company and website.  Perhaps one phone call there ( Gawd knows where you'll end up....Bangladesh?) might solve this.  Especially if you know some 13 year old who knows how to bombard their site with inquiries if they don't desist

Lisa, that would be a site for sore eyes..............li'l piggy had 12 cousins born on Saturday night. I went over to check on the chickens and my son came running out of the house telling me the pig was ready. We cough them as they came flying out, Mollie and Joyce cleaned them up and had them in baskets keeping them warm. We put them back with Mom after she was done delivering, it's to easy for her to roll over, or step on them during delivery. We also hatched out 32 chicks...it was quite the birthing weekend. Mollie got to see it all happen and it was good for her to see and be involved in the process................Bill

Awwwww......now that is just AWESOME!  I remember being just amazed when I lived in France, in farm country, about all the newborn animals.......lambs, piglets, calves, chicks, ducklings.  It was beautiful.  You are indeed blessed!
Do you have any turkeys?  You could ride on the back of a turkey (once considered to be the national bird before the eagle took first place) through Boston screaming "taxation without representation".  Of course they would arrest you........but that's another story.

Lisa, it's fun to have the family involved in the farm. Mollie planted the corn, about 2000 seeds. She was tired when she was done, But, when she saw the corn coming up after about a week, she had a big smile on her face......I thought about getting some Turkeys, that may be on the list for next year. I agree with the Turkey being the national bird, there are way more Turkeys in Washington than Eagles. I hope I'm not getting .............................Poul(try)itical..............Bill

I tried growing corn in France.  In those days corn was just for pigs and cows.  They all thought I was nuts.....you're gonna eat that stuff?  So I had my Dad send me some seeds.  What I didn't know is that you have to plant a good amount of corn to get some to eat.  I planted 2 rows and got nothing.  The French neighbors had a good laugh at my expense!

Lisa, lesson learned the hard way. We will be planting another plot in a few days. Corn is, what they call (wind Pollinated) growing in Blocks is better. We have rows that turn in to a block. Don't feel bad, I did the same thing years ago with the corn, live and learn.
