When I was in the Army stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky in 1962, I had my mother send me 6 whole salami's from Katz's. 2 were for the non-coms (who never bothered us Jewish guys from NY anymore after that) and the other 4 were for me and my buddies.

Oy, what I wouldn't give for a Katz's pastrami on rye with mustard and a Dr. Brown's cream soda right now.

How 'bout a pastrami reuben?

or a corned beef on rye?

or what I think may be my new favorite...brisket on a club roll?

I tell ya, every time I go to Katz's I come away more and more impressed with the place.  AND, there is a street festival called DayLife on June 2nd at 12 noon on Orchard Street between Houston St. and Delancey Street featuring local retail shops and food vendors/restaurants, music and events happening the Lower East Side PLUS a Katz's pastrami eating contest to celebrate their 125th anniversary!!!!

Katz's is NOT the same after all these years. In the mid-1970's, the quality took a major nosedive for a decade or so. Then it started getting better again, possibly when the Dell's bought in.
