Help. Our favorite restaurant in Scanton, Tony and Sons, apparently has closed. The restaurant was not much to look at nor was the owner any good at people skills, but his Philly Cheese Steak was incredible. Scanton is a good stopping point for us when we return north. I would appreciate any suggestions for Philly Cheese Steak shops in Scanton PA. Thanks in advance. We live in Ohio which is a state void of Philly Cheese Steaks!

Scranton?   If you went to the lowest circle of hell, you’d still be 45 minutes outside of Scranton!(SNL)

euclid, NEPA is not really a big cheese steak area.  But, if you must, Cosmo's puts out a decent Philly Cheese Steak.  Two location, one in Scranton and one in Kingston, not far from Tony's.  Which BTW has been torn down and turned into a car lot

Or, just come to Pittston!

Hoagies and pizza at Napoli's.

Italian food at The Gramercy or Cafe Italia.

Texas burgers and dogs at The Majestic.

Joe-
Anything new on how Tony is doing?  I loved that place when you took us there.  Such a shame it is now a parking lot.

Tony is good, he got used to retirement.  His wife Julie had a stroke, no update on her.

I'm hoping somebody buys his recipes, I really miss his breakfasts.

Thanks for the reply Joe.  Glad to hear Tony is doing well and he certainly has earned his retirement.

Thanks Joe. It would be amazing if his recipes would become available. After he was done using me as a pin cushion, we had a nice chat about his food, but no dice getting him to cough up some recipes.
I saw Cosmo"s online. Have you tried them and if so, any good? If not a cheese steak in Scanton, what would you suggest? I appreciate your other suggestions but is there a signature restaurant (Like Tony's) that we should try?

Thanks

Old school classic RF type places would include, Majestic in Pittston and both Coney Island's in Scranton for hot dogs.

Best grab and go Italian hoagies are at Catalano's Importing in Scranton.  Classic place!

Old Forge for Pizza.  During the day you can try Acaro & Genell, Revello's or Salerno's.

Or heck, PM me, if I'm around I'll give you the grand tour.

I saw Tony about 2 weeks ago, he looked happy and said hello. I didn't ask how his wife was doing, though.

Thanks Joe for the neighborly  grand tour offer.. Our trips up north are a forced march. Three dogs, the wife and several coolers filled with fish we caught over the winter. Our meals resemble animal house. But again, thanks for your offer. Much appreciated!
Spent a lot of time on line. Your suggestion of Majestic is very intriguing. I think I will opt for Cosmo's. Its a cheese steak thing. We'll be on 81 so which location do you suggest and thank you.
By the way. Please keep me posted on Tony and his recipes. I would drive many a mile to have his cheese steak again. Best sandwich I have ever had
