I take a few pills and wash them down with Ocean Spray Cran-Pomagranate and after that it's about 8-10 cups of Caribou coffee.

First I take my AM meds, vitamins, and herbs washed down with a glass
of filtered tap water to which a packet of Emergen-C  powdered "Black Cherry" has been added.
Then I'll have a 1-2 cups of coffee. Either grinding premium beans and using my French Press or, my Lavazza Cartridge coffee maker using Lavazza espresso cartridges.

Big glass of water for my morning pill, then I usually get an unsweetened iced tea with lemon from the shop down the block each morning, then lemon water as I refill the cup with filtered water after the tea is gone.

I start the day with two glasses of water.  By the time I'm at my office, it's time for my first "Coke in the morning." I started drinking Coke early in the day when I lived in Nashville, and I've never gotten out of the habit.

One suggestion to all you folks who take your pills with fruit juices -- check with your doctor. Grapefruit juice and pomegranate juice can interact with all kinds of medications, including Lipitor, blood thinners, and blood pressure medications.

It's really best to take pills with a big glass of water.

At home it's either hot chocolate or tea.  On the road it's always coffee.

Very good advice. My doctor told me the same thing! About the juice. Not the Coke!

1st thing is a large glass of water. That is to re-hydrate, as have had no fluids for 5-7 hours. Then it is on to several cups of hot Dr Pepper. I know, it is strange!!!

Sweet tea. Straight from the bed to the fridge.  I bring a mug large enough, fit for a construction worker to work and it last's me until around 3p.

Nothing like an icy cold Coca-Cola to clear my grogginess away first thing in the morning.   Best accompanied by some cold Frosted Cherry Pop-Tarts  or McDonald's hash browns.

OK, I'll 'fess up.  When I lived in Alaska we would go over to our friends' house at 9AM to watch football. ( 4-hour time difference) And yes, we would start the kick-off with Bloody Marys.  And we'd drink Bloody Marys at half-time and at the end of the game too!

If I'm cooking a brisket and need to get the fire going at about 4 am I've been known to pop a Shiner for my morning pills.

What do you drink every morning? I drink water and sometimes juice.

For me, it's OJ (only Simply Orange or Tropicana) to start and then water for most of the day.

When I see people drinking Coke or diet coke before noon, I'm always reminded of the Saturday Night skit - "Coke's not just for breakfast anymore".  I'll never understand it, but to each his own.......

I recently mixed up a winner:

Dole 100% Pine-Orange Banana juice and Grapefruit Perrier, mixed in equal parts and gently stirred. The resulting beverage tastes weirdly of cardamom. It's very tasty, very subtle, and all of the flavors work surprisingly well together.

For a less "flavor-packed" version, just mix equal parts Dole 100% Pineapple Orange juice and regular Perrier (or carbonated spring water of your choice). A bit more straightforward, but it's just as refreshing.

Coffee is always the first thing. I then follow up with Trader Joe's Garden Patch low-sodium tomato juice, sort of a V8 knockoff that I like better.

coffee...coffee...coffee......used to be a Gevalia man...love the various types....but the price and shipping costs did me in......so much cheaper to buy PREMIUM coffee elsewhere......and Gevalia is available at our local markets...in cheaper larger amounts than the expensive half pound boxes they shipped...whatever I drink, however, no cheaper brands for me......It's my one vice, quality coffee, please.

Interesting thread, lots of different approaches to AM.

Me, a glass of juice, usually orange, grapefruit, or V8 (if I'm "under the weather") followed by two cups of hot tea, plain. Except in warm weather months I substitute unsweetened iced tea for the hot tea. I don't drink coffee, never liked the taste.

I've got a Keurig machine, and have tried a LOT of different coffees, and have some near winners, some losers and some okays. I'd like to hear opinons please! I like full flavored but not super dark roast. Starbucks is pretty good, but lacking something, Green Mountain breakfast blend not strong enough, etc. Looking for something in a medium roast that is substantial!

I love my Keurig and the variety it affords since everyone and his brother is now making k-cups. I like the Green Mountain Breakfast blend, almost any variety of Tully's and of late I bought one of those gadgets that lets you grind your own and insert it into the machine. Works fine lasts a long time.

OK, if we want to talk about game days, then I too always start the day with a Bloody Mary at 9:00.  Always at the Blue Dube just North of the OSU campus.  We usually have about 3 before we head to the Shoe.

Never understood the appeal of those K cups some of you talk about......the cost per serving is so high...and the ones I have tasted don't overly impress....Ok, so you can have dozens of varieties...very expensive varieties......If I want variety,I'll get half pound packages of new blends.....if I find a winner,I'll get larger amounts...I drink 2-3 mugs a morning.....K cups is a windfall for the coffee companies....pay by the single cup...premium price...I'll make my 12 cup pot of premium for less than half the price,I bet!!!

I'm not a very big coffee drinker. I like a cup at times...but just a cup. I don't need 12 cups. I like the Keurig it's fast easy done. The My K-Cup insert allows to to make any coffee your heart desires...if you don't want the regular K-Cups...

I love my Keurig.  I don't really care about the cost per cup, since I don't have that many.  I like coffee strong and dark.  My favorites are Double Black Diamond, and if looking for a caffeine kick, I choose Jet Fuel from the Coffee People.

Since I am no longer in Alaska (and therefore no excuse to drink Bloody Marys at 9AM) I grind Colombian beans every morning and make 2 cups for MH and 1 for me.  Sometimes followed by orange juice.  A small glass of spring water while waiting for the coffee to brew.

When I was a little girl, I wanted to drink coffee with my parents.( I also wanted a martini at night, but that didn't happen!) Mom gave me a cup of half coffee, half milk. I pretty much still drink it that way. In summer, I like plain iced tea. Lleechef and I will meet for Bloody Mary's one of these days. Breakfast in a glass....lol!

If it's the winter, something to warm up the blood.  A Hot Toddy with milk or some Caribou (maple syrup/port/whiskey liqueur) on ice.  A hot chocolate if I don't want to drink.

In the summer, just juice or water.

I drink one cup at home before heading to the office, so I don't think the price per cup is killing me! If I were to make a 12 cup batch, it would cost me a lot more in waste than making one k-cup every morning. Old coffee sucks. Also, mine came with a basket so that I can use any coffee and the same price you buy it for. I use this when my relatives in CA bring me Peet's!

My morning routine is set in stone.  Glass of water.  Start the coffee machine.  Take a shower and dress.  Have some coffee.  Have some grapefruit juice because that's what I really wanted all along.  Every.  Single.  Day.
