Hey Lisa, Was the salmon, there in Ohio at least frozen? I know that I never buy fish or shrimp "unfrozen" here unless I can be sure it is available to me as truly fresh and never been frozen. Where I live, many seafood items are much better purchased frozen.
We, as a rule, don't get fresh shrimp here, only defrosted, so I would only buy frozen. That goes the same for scallops and King Crab Legs.
There are many kinds of fish I can get, depending on the time of year, very fresh such as Cod, Blue Fish and Flounder but I am very picky if I am paying a premium price!
No, it wasn't frozen. But it looked what I call "tired"......in other words, "old and dried out".
Shrimp are frozen on the boat and I buy them frozen also, same with King Crab Legs. Scallops, on the other hand, I buy fresh (at Wholey's in Pittsburgh) and they are delicious.
Our Giant Eagle here in Gahanna does not have the best seafood department. But the same store in Rochester, PA (population 1/3 of Gahanna) has a spectacular seafood section. Go figure.
