Santa Fe, 1st Time!!! Sat, 05/25/13 11:12 AM (permalink)
Good morning Roadfooders.
QFan & the Ms are going to Santa Fe in July for a wk. 1st time, can't wait!!! Yes, I know there are probably more than a dozen places where we can get a killer Green Chile CB--not even counting the Bobcat Bite which may or may not still be around when we get there.
How about beyond that? Could some of you SF-experienced RFers make recommendation(s) for "can't-miss" places in Santa Fe or Taos? Would really appreciate your help!

All you have to do is use the search function on here. Every conceviable place in SF has been covered, reported on and discussed at great length.
Try the Find Regional Eats function in the upper right hand corner of the home page for starters. You'll get full write ups. Pictures Too!!!! All written by Roadfooders!

I would check out this place in Chimayo...it's about 30 miles north of Santa Fe and on the way to Taos.

I like Rancho de Chimayo but many think it's become too touristy. Doesn't matter, it's a pretty setting with it's patios, gardens and old rancho style. Same can be said about Tomisita's and The Shed. They have been around forever and are old school and that's why I still like them. Good basic food.

Just had a green chile cheeseburger at Horseman's Haven. Good alternative to Bobcat Bite. Out-of-the way, behind gas station on Cerrillos Rd about 1/2 mile from I-25 exit.
Very spicy green chile, huge burger. Order it "smothered".

Just arrived in Santa Fe last night. Spent the morning getting acclimated to the elevation and the lay of the local landscape. Had quick lunch at Blake's Lottaburger. Yes, had their Green Chile Cheeseburger and it was outstanding!
Don't let the snobs tell you that you can't get good RF at a fast food eatery. Also had their onion rings which were excellent.
It's Cafe Pascqual's for dinner tonight. Will keep you all posted. Thanks again for all the good tips!

Was just at Pasquals last week.  The fresh lemonade is great.  My GF and I had breakfast and my smoked trout hash with over easy eggs and tomatillo salsa was fantastic.  My GF loved the griddled polenta with sauteed chorizo, corn and smothered in red chile.  If they have it at this hour, try the red chile bacon!

Just returned from SF. Wow!!! Wonderful place!!!
Pasqual's, Maria's and an out-of-the-way place called Mucho Gusto were all terrific. For breakfast or brunch any day, the Ms & I discovered a little French bakery on Palace St called Chez Mamou. Another find was the Whole Hog Barbecue (2 locations) for authentic smoked que. Huge portions!
Also, don't miss Rancho de Chimayo on the High Road to Taos--wonderful food & atmosphere. Best Chiles Releno I've ever had--bar none!
Can't wait to get back; already planning next trip.

Because there is so much great food in Santa Fe, Pasqual's seems to be taken for granted at times and it is also on the expensive side.  But, I think it is one of the all-time Roadfood greats.

On your next trip, try The Jambo Cafe on Cerrillos Road. African cuisine with grilled cinnamon plantains to die for! Also I agree that Rancho Chimato is a great place to eat. Hope you visited the Sanctuaria as well.

Couldn't agree more, Buffetbuster. Had one of the most memorable meals there last wk (w/ a group of 7 other people) that I've ever had anywhere in the country!!!

Pascal's has always been my "go to" cafe for fabulous food in Santa Fe.
