Black Pipe wrapping/preparations - Wed, 06/12/13 3:07 PM

Anyone bother with this? I saw this specialized tape for the outside of black pipe and bought a roll, thinking that maybe I'd use it to keep the pipe from oxidizing. But then I start thinking that wrapping all the installed pipe might be a task and the finished job might look worse than some eventual rust. I was wondering if anyone has made preparations to protect their black pipe where exposed to the elements.

paint it with an epoxy paint or BBQ paint it will last years.I wouldn't wrap as it probably will look worse and then you'll have to peel it all off and paint.

Why not just use galvanized pipe?

Galvanized pipe and propane are usually not used together.  Some places it's even against code

I have galvanized in my trailer, it's allowed here. 3 years, no rust and I'm at the beach.

I would have much preferred galvanized as just about anything rusts down here and very, very quickly...but local code rules.  Worth a check no matter who's at the helm.
