Anybody willing to share how and where they have their generators mounted.  Pics would be great!  I am thinking of mounting mine underneath the truck.
Thanks

How big is your genny? I wanted to do that but it was too heavy and I would have worried about welded brackets not being able to withstand the constant use and driving abuse. I ended up mounting mine with the engine in the kitchen and the alternator almost under the drivers seat. Built an enclosure to cover the genny and have an exterior access with large fan. Check out Facebook.com/boxofchacos for some pics. Have to go back to the beginning but I believe there are a few.

find an RV dealer who installs generators...   mine is mounted on the back of the bumper.  it's loud and obnoxious. saving up for a 4000$ ONAN and having it installed professionally

The onans are ridiculously quiet. Super nice little units

find a RV salvage yard and you can get the slides and onan gen for about a 1/3 of new.

That's a great idea. That slide setup onan uses is nifty. And those guys can help make sure it's installed tight too

Maybe 500 lbs total for the generators.

Hello all, new to the forums and like everyone else I am very pleased to see so much information sharing. Thank you all very much for all of the ideas and inputs. Im curious, I have 2 six volt batteries outside my P 30 Grumman for DC use. They are in need of replacement but the box they are in is so rusty and just not pleasant to look at.

Trying to get them out was a real chore, is there or has anybody found a site online where I might find as new box or and more importantly a set of slide rails I could put the batteries on so when I need to change them or do maintenance on them I could easily pull them out from under the truck? Thank you in advance.

Its not difficult to make a lo tech slide tray for about anything using standard roller bearings.  Below is a pic of one technique using opposing corners, but you can also do a simple version of this just like a cart by placing one set of bearings on a rail.  Then bolt the cart in place as it only needs to roll limited times.  Heavy duty ball slides will be expensive and overkill for something simple like a generator slide.

Wow I never thought that angle! I was more looking for heave duty slide rails like a kitchen drawer uses, but in a pinch this would certainly work. Thank you very much.

Forgot to add if you then mount the rails with isolators like the ones below, then use the same isolators to mount the gen to the cart you have a good sound isolation system, much quieter as the engine vibration is not transmitting thru the metal parts.

While gutting out my P 30 I found the converter. It is a Magnetek 775 Converter charger. How exactly do these work? I read they convert AC to DC. Does this, or rather is this wired to my alternator and then it feeds into my 2 outside batteries that run the DC lighting so it keeps those batteries charged when the truck is running?

It acts as a 12v power supply and battery charger when you are plugged in to ac.

Thank you Rcoy. I finaly have the inside gutted to the aluminim and there is a ton of DC wiring that ran all the lighting for the old Mac tool shelves. What I found very cool is al the wiring is actually lettered from the factory as shelf lights. Not to mention the Oak shelving fit perfect on my garage walls :)
