I'm looking for a casual restaurant near the Art Institute of Chicago. Walking distance would be preferred. Thanks

I've always found that area to be a little challenging. How casual do you want? It's not too far from a Harold's Chicken Shack which is decent but that might be a touch past casual.

Thanks. I'm sure it will be fine.

Russian Tea Time is fairly casual. Good borscht.

I think Miller's Pub on south Wabash would be a good choice. A Chicago classic and definitely can be casual. Can check it out on their website www.millerspub.com

Try the Artist's Snack Shop, practically across the street from the AI.  It's a pleasant little diner type establishment that might suit your needs.  Food is good, not great; about what you'd expect from an urban diner like this.

We used to eat there occasionally when I was a student at Columbia College, further south on Michigan.  I know a lot of the Art Institute students make it a regular haunt, as well.

It turns out they have a new, second location a block west and seven blocks south:
The New Artist's Cafe
1150 S. Wabash St.
Chicago, IL 60605

The original Michigan Avenue location appears to have a more extensive and less trendy menu.

Sounds like another great place to go to. My son will be a freshman at SAIC this fall.

Walking north and crossing the river is Howells and Hood.  Love the food and a great beer selection.  Outdoor dining on the south (plaza side) side of Tribune Tower.
