Several years ago (4-5 maybe) I found a recipe on this site, and I'm pretty sure it was in this forum, for a coleslaw dressing that had only 4 ingredients...white vinegar, sugar, mayonnaise, and celery seed.  Possibly salt and pepper to taste but that was it.  I can't remember the quantities but those were the only ingredients.  Anybody know which one I'm talking about or know of one like this?

You're from GA, you should know this...LOL. That's the base for all Southern Cole Slaw. but it's apple cider vinegar. of course it's slaw, there are not mistakes.  Measurements ha!! I make this everyday, depends on the head size, density, etc. But first salt your cabbage to leach the moisture out, then you wont have watered down slaw. an hour should do any more and you might as well make kraut. Some areas I use more sugar and less vinegar other places items are reversed. adjust for taste and texture

I've experimented with other kinds of vinegar; malt vinegar actually works very well. Also, I always put onion powder in my slaw.

The basic dressing used on German style cole slaw.
 
Dressing 1

1 cup white sugar
1 cup vinegar
2 teaspoons celery seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oil

Dressing 2
3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup vinegar 1-1/2 teaspoons celery seed 1-1/2 teaspoons salt 3/4 cup canola oil
 
The vinegar can be white, apple cider, rice wine, or other flavored vinegars.

I am originally from new England ,Vermont to be precise, in Lebanon N.H. there was a place called riverside grill well known by many a traveler, north, west ,east and south, they had "world famous cole slaw" never could put my finger on what made it so good tried to get the recipe many many times from workers, chefs, waiters etc. no luck, a few years ago they closed the doors, well being the guy that I am, hell I e mailed the owner...asked for the recipe to "carry on the tradition so to speak" ahem ...well she mailed it back to me!! I was very surprised to see that it was so basic it was crazy...........

Thanks for all the replies guys!  I know I should know this but there are only about a million variations on coleslaw!  And I'm talking about just in GA!

oh hell yea Billy and bubba, shoot forgot to give the recipe lol, you know what they say the first to go is the memory then it's ,,.......its....um...ahh........ I forget what was the second................. shredded cabbage, sugar, s/p to taste. DONE..
Sorry been communicating with the masses.one of my a/c units broke! been 110' the snow mans been melting!!

2 1/2 to 3 lb head of cabbage, shredded fine (squeeze out excess juice if too moist). 
3/4 cup white granulated sugar 
1/4 cup honey 
1/2 cup plus 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar 
1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons prepared yellow mustard 
1/2 teaspoon salt 
1 teaspoon pepper 

Let set overnight in refrigerator
