I-64 to Louisville and I-71 from Louisville to Cincinnati.

This is what I did in Fall of 2012 and it worked well for me.

No hassle trip. I'll do almost anything to avoid going through Indianapolis on I 70.

Well, you don't have to actually go through Indianapolis that way. You just fly in and go around in circles till you can figure a way out of town.

I'm hoping to make a stop at some point at Alabama Fish Bar.  It's not a sit down, AYCE place, but they do serve some pretty darned good fish.

There are some caveats.  As mentioned above, they are strictly carry-out.  Past visits have involved dining "ala trunk".  Which brings me to the next caveat; they are located in a less than desirable neighborhood.  That said, their clientele is decidedly mixed in all ways, race, economic strata, ethnicity, etc.

I've been approached by some locals, looking for a hand out, which has prompted a unique and easy solution, at least for me.  One portion at Alabama Fish Bar is more than one person can reasonably eat in one sitting.  While I refuse to give money, I have no problem sharing a piece of fish or two with a needy street person.  This usually satisfies their request or it sends them on their way.  Either option works for me.

LOLZ.

That was me IIRC with you that lovely warm evening.

"Ghetto al fresco" is how I'd term it. But in this city, it's mainly harmless.
I've been back many times and there is another similar fishhouse not far just up Queen City Ave. about five minutes from teh I-75 freeway.

As many others will say, a nite out Chowhounding with either Buddy or buffetbuster means it's an "anything can happen" nite.

That's the fun of it.
See y'all in April. :)

jjjr, that was indeed you joining me in a massive mound of fish and fries, enjoyed among the junkies and the disenfranchised.

It's true "anything can happen" in a night out with me or buffetbuster.  The difference is, with buffetbuster, you never know how many places you'll end up visiting before the night is through; with me you never know how much danger you'll be facing in the same amount of time.  Either way, a good time is had by all.

I got an email from the Reds about this upcoming season, and it seems that April 12 is a 1:10 game. They are giving away Reds fleece blankets that day.

If you want to go to the Reds game on Friday night, you know I will get you there one way or another.

I have been to Great American Ballpark several times already, so I don't have interest in going to the game.

That would be great just as long as who ever I go with can get me back to my hotel after the game.

I am departing Chicago early Wednesday morning with a stop or two along the way...residing in Blue Ash for four wonderful, fun-filled evenings!

Please pick up the following on the way down
  • A couple of pies from Burts
  • A couple of Italian Beefs hot and sweet from Johnnies
  • A few dogs dragged through the garden along with some merkt's cheddar cheese fries from  Poochie's

Buddy has the in so I know he'll be more than happy to fill up the vehicle!

If I thought any of it would still be edible by the time we got to it, I'd bring it in a heartbeat.  As it is, I don't think we'll be wanting for good grub that weekend.

Or perhaps I can  stay at the ballpark overnight and Buffetbuster can pick me up the next morning on the way to the Chili Crawl

I am sorry to say that we are going to be the Cin-City 5-Way's first cancellations.

Reasons? You want reasons? I've got your Top 10, right here.

10.          Not enough national fast-food chains on the tour.
9.            I’m terrified of my nemesis.
8.            They tore down El Rancho Rankin? To hell with that. I’m staying home.
7.            WTH? Drive all the way to Ohio for Greek meat sauce?
6.            Not my weekend to wear the big boy pants.
5.            Moving to house in NC & need to move that weekend.
4.            I’m not letting Pie Diva get that near to buffetbuster ever again.
3.            Cin-City 5-Way. That sounds like code for a morally bankrupt activity.
2.            Spaghetti. Meat sauce.  Cheese. Beans. Onions. Are you ****ing me?
1.            Preparation for Smoke Day/Pie Day on May 24 takes a lot of time and effort.

We're holding out hope that we can still make it, but those 10 reasons are an awful lot to overcome.

Nice imitation of Letterman but I'm not buying it.  You two get your butts there.  I'm not eating over-cooked spaghetti with Greek meat sauce, cheese, beans, onions, etc. either!  Let's have a pie throwdown.  That will get everybody's attention!

It is hard to resist such peer pressure. So we have changed plans again (even reserving a non-refundable flight back to NC) and will be in Cincinnati. We are even bringing our son along, so count Team JRPfeff/Pie Diva as THREE (3).

Pie? You want pie? Bring. It. On.

ON!!!  Giddy up!

If you want pie, bring pie (a stop at Hoosier Mama Pie Co. is encouraged).

Everyone bringing pie will gather somewhere on the first night to share what they brought and taunt those that didn't.

Details later.

Ed, Ed. Relax. Everyone who knows chili knows this stuff isn't chili. It's good, but it's just Greek meat sauce.

I'll wait now for the appearance of TJ, who will blast me once again for speaking the truth.

I did an interview with the head of the ICS the other day. I'm surprised she's still talking to me-----she was NOT impressed a few weeks ago when I told her i was going to Cincinnati for CHILI!!!" />
