Ok after a slew of messages and 99% of them not liking March, how about APRIL 12, 2014.

The reds are in town vs the Rays
The cyclones finish their regular home season that weekend
Cincy will be filled with local fish frys

The weather will be warmer??

ScreamingChicken,
I never heard of the Flimm Building so I just googled it and LOL I now know why you inserted the wink icon haha.  As for the great Mike Phipps, I know who he is but I can not say I am specifically a fan of his (he is probably more popular in Cleveland).  I just love these losers (Da Bears!)

BTW, you have the coolest screen name on this website

I look forward to meeting you, but I feel I must warn you about something. If you love chili this might be a disconcerting experience for you. I really like Cincinnati chili (I'm a four-way-with-onions guy), but it is absolutely not chili. It really is Greek meat sauce, which I'm guessing is why they got the idea to put it on top of spaghetti.

Mr. Hoffman,

I am looking forward to meeting you as well.  I have already prepared myself for a potentially disappointing taste bud experience with Cincy chili.  I've heard rumors that they add cinnamon and/or cocoa powder to their chili... Any truth to this?  Regardless, this will be a memorable weekend because of the people on the tour.

Oh, cinnamon and cocoa are often in it, but it shouldn't be a disappointing experience. Just don't think of it as chili and it's delicious. I love chili -- the real stuff. But I frequently head for the local Skyline place here to get my Cincinnati chili fix. Their hot dogs are pretty tasteless, but I do enjoy them topped with the chili, onions, mustard and cheese.

Yup I am going to Cincy with an open mind.  And hey, if I absolutely hate the stuff, I can eat goetta and Graeter's ice cream for two days lol   Can you make sure Skyline chili makes it onto the intinerary for this trip?

Cincinnati is a really neat town. There is lots to really like there. But I can't guarantee Skyline. I'll bet, though, that CK will have it on the agenda. I'm looking forward to several of the other area chili places. Oh, I don't own any T-shirts, white or otherwise.

I am in talks with Skyline to do something "special" at the original Skyline location, so everyone can understand the reason it was called "skyline" chili.

I have not put a lot of thought into the actual places yet, with my last weeks being here in Nashville and away from Cincy.  I am actually starting to crave skyline.

If anyone has a favorite or suggestion, i will gladly accept them and try and make everyones wishes come true.

This is one I would probably like to make but my tentative schedule now is to head to Washington DC/northern VA in March then head down the coast to Florida and then over to Texas by the 17th of April and back up to Indiana for the month of May. Not sure I would zigzag back up to Cincinnati as April is still a little early to be up north in an RV.

Don,

We manage to somehow stop at Nick's Kitchen just about every May. This year we'll be going to the Indianapolis Grand Prix May 10, then a RV.net B Rally May 15-18 on Lake Monroe, and then the Indy 500 May 25. So, we will be in Indiana for some time. Our normal routine is to head north the day after the race through Michigan and then across the UP with a stop at Nick's Kitchen on the way up. One year we did meet up with Carolina Bob at Nick's Kitchen.

Sorry to get here so late.  Part of the problem is, my computer screen displays this thread title as "UPDATED - Cincinnati Stye Chili & Coney Crawl ***** APRIL 12, 201", leaving off the "4", leading me to believe this was a past event and not one upcoming.

Anyway, I'm here now with a spark of interest.  I'm not as interested in Cincinnati Style Chili as some others, but I don't dislike it, and the prospect of seeing old friends and making new ones is a draw.

I heartily approve of your non-Chili choices.  In fact, I encourage you to toss in a few more.  Anyone who hasn't experienced Jungle Jim's or enjoyed the Ice Cream at Graeter's or Aglamesis Bros. will be delighted.   I thoroughly enjoyed my last visit to Pit to Plate, and wouldn't mind a revisit.  TJ Jackson (whom I've met) might even recommend an even better 'Que joint.

I've got to see how the new year develops, so no firm commitments yet.  But if the stars all line up, you can count me in for this trip.

Cincinnati isn't a great que town, but there is a REALLY good one in Newtown right across from the temporarily shut down Iron Skillet (where you had as best I recall a pretty good euro/german meal a few years back) called Just Q'in

Call before you go because their hours are kinda wonky, especially in colder months

They have little or no indoor seating, so if you do go there expect to eat ala trunk or ala dashboard

Howdy.  Lots of places will be hard to add, but I might (strongly) recommend Dixie Chili across the river in Newport, home of the 6-Way (a traditional 5-Way with added fresh minced garlic) and they serve the odd variation on the traditional coney, called an Alligator.  It's a coney but with cheese, mayo and a dill spear.  Weirdly delicious.  The 6-Way is manna from Heaven, but your spouse might file for halitosis-induced divorce.

Eli's on Riverside is good 'cue as well. For a buck extra you can order the sides "dirty" -- sprinkled with crumbled "bark" outside meat. It's a dollar well-spent.

That being said, I prefer Just Q'in by a nose. We order carryout once every couple of months.

I went to Camp Washington Chili for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly delighted.

I agree.  Most of us locals are only in the last decade or so starting to learn what bbq actually is, mostly because thats when real bbq joints started opening up in this area.

Before I joined this website a  decade or so ago, I thought bbq was  a) meat with bbq sauce or b) meat grilled outdoors......and this is pretty much what the majority of Cincinnatians still seem to think.

The learning is a work in progress.
