I don't know if any of have viewed the video's on recipe.com But they use what appears to be a self contained single gas burner for some of the demos. It's looks like it would a handy thing to have around especially for prolonged power outages. Please take a brief look at this video
see if you can help me identify this appliance. Thanks

We bought one of those at a restaurant supply store for under $50. It works wonderfully and is great to have when just one more burner is needed.  I can't recall the brand right now, but there are several like it at Amazon.

I have a Max Burton portable burner made by ATHENA. I have had it for 10 plus years. It has served me well. Plus it is a bit more appealing to the eye as opposed to when I would haul out the Coleman stove - white gas model.

Used to sell those for $25.

You can usually find them in Asian markets.

A hundred years ago when they only came in electric, we called them hot plates. I still have one, which I believe was something like $10 at Target. Of course, that doesn't help if your power is out, but I have seen the gas versions at Gordon Food Service and often in the camping section at department stores.

I used these at an event at whole foods on the patio. I sautéed pasta plates to order for four hours with four of these. It worked great. Had to replace the fuel cans. I don't remember how many I went through but I had at full blast the whole time

They're light and they travel well.

After Katrina I sent two of them with a case of cans to a friend and her mother in Lacomb, LA.
