We eagerly anticipated what was supposed to be the world's best breakfast at Brennan's in New Orleans and understood that it was very expensive. What a major disappointment. Cost three people over $130 for poached eggs (no meat), some strawberries in cream and three desserts and coffee. Really not worth it at all. the eggs were all variations of eggs benedict, and nothing extraordinary at all. Realize this is not considered Roadfood per se, but just in case there are any other tourists out there planning to eat here, DON'T!

I have never had anything but a blast for breakfast here. Excellent renditions of grillades and grits, turtle soup, fried local fish and eggs, excellent brandy milk punch.

All in all a fine meal.

Linda,
Over 40 dollars per person for the breakfast you describe is outrageous. Some of the places I have been do charge 15 dollars per cocktail. Did your party have any alcohol?

I would guess this is what they had at $35.00 USD per person:

With a decent tip, I can see it being over $130.00. Just a thought.
P.S. I only saw two egg selections that had no meat. There were some very lovely looking selections with meat, sausage, seafood, etc.

Yep, that's the same menu they had in 1991 (and the same prices too!). My then SO and I decided to get out of cold snowy New England and spend a long weekend in NOLA. His secretary said we HAD to have breakfast at Brennan's. I said, whatevah, I wouldn't pick it but you're paying! We went on Sunday morning and the experience was beautiful. From the gas sconces to the superb service to the delicious food. We both had eggs Benedict. BUT I do have a problem with paying $100 for 2 fruit cups, 4 eggs, 4 slices of Canadian bacon, 4 Holland rusks, 2 oz. of hollandaise and Bananas foster. Would I return? Probably not but the experience was memorable.

Thirteen years later and the prices are the same? That could be considered a bargain I suppose. LOL.

I agree...........it is a great experience. Walking through the door, you have to realize that you are going to pay "big bucks." After you realize that and are willing to accept that fact, it is an outstanding experience.

I haven't been to Brennan's for years, bu I fondly remember the eggs Benedict, eggs Sardou, grillades and grits, and even a taste of someone else's bananas Foster. I have not the foggiest recollectiion of how much anything cost.

Don't need a cookbook to make eggs Benedict........but it was the AMBIANCE and the EXPERIENCE. Gotta do it, just once, break the bank and go for it. It's kind of like being in Paris and NOT going to a 2 or 3-star restaurant. Just once. Just for the EXPERIENCE!

Nope, I really don't need cookbook either, even though I have one. Please forward check/money order to me in care of "Brennan's" for me to experience same. Please leave $$$ amount blank, as I plan to eat from their dinner menu, also...
