What is the difference between Spam and Treet and which do you prefer??  What are some of your favorite ways to cook it?

Treet is a low-rent version of Spam.
Favorite ways to cook Spam?
Stir fry with typical Chinese vegetables.
Fry in a little bacon grease to make a sandwich
Smear the whole block with Dijon mustard and bake just until warm
I could go on and on. At one point is my life I was, shall we say...economically challenged. Ate a lot of Spam and tuna. I still like both of them.

Never had Treet.  I do like Spam though.  I like to slice it and fry it, then have it with eggs or in a sandwich.

Agree with mbrookes...they're essentially the same thing, but Treet was always cheaper. As a side note, I haven't seen Treet in a store since I was a kid...do they still make it?

However, I don't agree on still liking either one. I don't eat them any more, since we ate a lot of it when we were economically challenged as well. Now that I have at least a little money, I'd rather eat just about anything else. However, a standard meal was to fry slices in bacon grease or butter and eat on white bread with mustard and mayonnaise. Occasionally leaf lettuce and/or tomato slices from the garden.

I usually buy Treet because it's less expensive, but as far as I'm concerned they're both good. I like to fry a couple of slices of either, top the slices with some cheese and make a sandwich. I also like Treet/Spam fried with eggs, and also with B&M baked beans. Years ago a friend introduced me to cubes of Spam (he was the Spam distributor in the U.S. Virgin Islands) sautéed in Cruzan rum (dark) as hors d'oeurves. I haven't done that in years. It's good.

If you make fried rice try using diced spam instead of chicken or shrimp. Soy Sauce and Spam go together perfect. Add some diced pineapple to it also.

Pre-bake some potatoes until just done and a little hard and refrigerate them over night. Dice up some green peppers, onions and jalapenos and saute them with some diced up Spam and a little oil. Dice up the cold potatoes and saute them with a little oil  in a separate pan until golden.  Add the sauteed diced spam and vegetables to the potatoes and cook together until combined. Making a spam hash. Top with cheese or eggs.

Shred some with a coarse box grater and deep fry until crunchy and use as a topping for hamburgers.

Slice thin and saute maybe 1/4 inch and use in a grilled cheese sandwich.

Spam is what it is(Treet,also)
Salty pork product in a can that can sit in your cupboard for, like, forever.
If you think you can be snowed in, keep 20 cans on hand.
I find it very tasty, could find it very comforting cooked on the woodstove when power goes out.

I tried one of the "designer Spam" flavors (Cracked Pepper I think) the other day. First Spam I've had in probably 30 years. I thought I used to like it but this was disgusting. It tasted like real cheap canned dogfood looks and kind of smelled similar.

I was told by a Korean Doctor that a Christmas basket in S. Korea always included cans of Spam. A left over from the Korean War. I also saw a late 1940's show form England with the wife complaining about how all she could find was Spam for dinner. I guess we kept a few Brits going during 1945 and 1946!
However, I do like it...my wife hates it and even though it is cooked, I could not eat it "raw".

I get what you're saying ~ not straight out of the can without further preparation: fried or baked, right?

Saw and picked up a can of  turkey Spam the other day ~ for nostalgia's sake. Sliced and butter-fried it till it had a nice crust and topped it with an over easy egg on potato bread.

Let's just say some things are better left to a good childhood memory.

Isn't Spam nothing more than a hunk of the cold cut "spiced-ham"? I was once even told the name "Spam" comes from "Spiced-Ham"   And while I don't eat Spam  ,ocassionally we get thinly sliced spiced ham ...it's good fried for breakfast!

My initial dislike of spam was due to my mother serving it cubed up straight from the can on salad. Needless to say, cold spam straight from the can on lettuce gave me emotional turrets through my young adulthood.  It wasn't until some arm twisting by a Hawaiian girlfriend got me to try it sliced and fried over rice with eggs did I realize it could actually be pretty tasty.  Since then I always fry or grill it now as a 1/4 to 1/3" spam slice.  I've also won people over dicing it up, frying it, and adding it to macaroni salads.  (Not telling them what it is until they try it.  Or outright lying and saying it's fried bologna.  I know, shameless.)

Only if you really, really stretch your definition of ham. Official ingredient list is "chopped shoulder pork with ham" (indicating two different areas on the pig as opposed to traditional cured ham), salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite. Spiced ham actually contains cured ham, and nothing else.

I like to think of spam as "a pork product" in the manner than American cheese, Velveta, Cheese Whiz are not legally sold as cheese but "a cheese product".
