We have lost a great Friend and Roadfooder, BUSHIE has passed away. - Fri, 11/1/13 12:47 PM
I do not know any of the details but I was informed that Bushie passed away today.  I just talked with him two weeks ago and he was hoping to get better but I believed his issue was not good.  He will be very much sorely missed by his friends.

We've lost our Friend BUSHIE - Fri, 11/1/13 12:48 PM
I received the news just minutes ago that our friend and long-term Roadfood supporter Mark Rodebush (BUSHIE) has passed away.  I know no details other than he has been down with a long-term affliction for some time.

I know I speak for many of you when I say he was a Great Guy, and a champion among the Glee-Club Roadfooder group.  I am really sad that I won't share more time with him. He was a true friend and I miss him terribly already.

So sorry to hear this.  I never got to meet Bushie but from what I've read he was a wonderful man and friend.

RIP, Bushie.  Condolences to all Bushie's friends and family.

I looked at his facebook page earlier today and couldn't believe what I was reading.
I'm beyond words and I'm in total disbelief.
I'm so glad I got to know Bushie over the last 10 years or so and I'll cherish the opportunities that I had meeting him, most recently a year and a half ago as we shared a day as he showed me  around the Northern Fringes of Austin TX .

I will miss him.

Re:We've lost our Friend BUSHIE - Fri, 11/1/13 2:58 PM
Poverty Pete called me and then I called Al,  He had just heard from Lisa.  I have talked with Bushie several times over the last several months.  He was having a very tough time.  He has been hospitalized since April and was depressed over his health and his job.  He had talked with Roz regarding his health.  As far as I know, his issue was not diagnosed.  I advised him to change hospitals and MD's PDQ.  I think he was considering it.

Bushie has visited with me in Knoxville and we took a trip on my boat and traveled to the Smokies.  I also visited with him in Austin several times.

He was a friend and I will certainly miss him.

Trudyn and I are heartbroken. Bushie was a good friend who took me to 3 or 4 wonderful places in Austin and was a boon companion and friend. He loved to playfully tweak me as an Oregon left wing liberal and i love to tweak him playfully  as  right wing wing but i treasured his taste in food, his love of Austin, and the spirit and personality be brought to these boards. The tears won't stop flowing. I treasure my memories of him as do almost all of us here  who had the pleasure of knowing him. Thank you, Mark.

Re:We've lost our Friend BUSHIE - Fri, 11/1/13 5:56 PM
I knew Bushie very well.  He visited with me here in Knoxville a few times and we took my Sundancer up the river along with his brother in law to Calhoun's BBQ and enjoyed some libation to and from the resturant.  My son in law was the desiginated driver (captain).  The second visit was to the mountains where Bushie introduced me to applecider with Canadian.  We did that at my dock where I am afraid me might have over imbibed.  I visited with him in Austin probably 4-5 times where we did multiple rides around Texas, BBQ places and of course some imbibing.  A few years ago I met our Roadfood friend, Rick Flynn.  I drove his Porsche from LA to Austin and had dinner with Bushie and his wife Sherry.  It was a great time.  I will sincerely miss Bushie like Rick.  A great story about Rick Flynn that I will not post but if you email me, I will tell you about it.   It seems lately that some of my friends are dropping like flies.  I sorta hate getting old.  I guess if you live long enough, you will pass on????

With a huge amount of sadness, I am celebrating Bushies life with my friend the Mayor, Al .  We will have a long distance cocktail with each other.  Just for you BUSHIE

Because it's not commercially available, as far as I know. Bushie was doing it himself. It was after the Glee Club gathering in Nashville where he tried some and liked it.

Last year, Bushie described his efforts at making bacon-infused bourbon.  I found it in the thread I started about my trip to Macy's parade.

I think at 5 PM Pacific Time I'm going to pour a glass of my Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select Bourbon and have a toast to Bushie. Anyone is welcome to join me at that same time (I'm making it early for myself to accommodate all of you on the other side of the Rockies).I think he deserves a toast with the good stuff.

Glad to join you in the toast, Michael. The Queen Mary's Director of Food and beverage went to Lynchburg to taste 3 barrels and bring one back. They were bottled exclusively for the Queen Mary's Jack Daniels Dinner in July. I was invited to it since I've been working closely with them on their food events for the last year. Of course I had to get a bottle for myself!

I got my first bottle from Tom Caulfield (chewingthefat). When we visited Tom and his wife this past summer he poured a couple of drinks for me, and then gave me the rest of the bottle to take home. I've since bought my own. I love it.

I'm at Sandra's in CT this weekend. I'll be joining you at 8PM eastern time with a local  craft brew, similar to that which I enjoyed with Bushie in Round Rock just a little over 18 months ago.

Roz and I will join the rest of you with a toast to Bushie at 8:00PM.  Bushie always had Canadian with me and sometimes in incredible amounts.
This has been a horrible day.  I lost two friends this week. It has not been pleasant.  Bushie ws my guest in Knoxville a few times and I visisted him 4-5 times in Austin.

He not already missed but will continually be missed.
Cheers Bushies in three minutes.

Re:We've lost our Friend BUSHIE - Sun, 11/3/13 8:02 AM
I was tied up with auction business on Saturday, so My toast to "BUSHIE" took place here at 7 AM Sunday morning.  The selection of that time  dates back to the morning of the first Glee Club BBQ quest day in Western Tennessee.  Bushie and I got an ealy start that February morning, and had about an hour at the meeting point before the others would arrive...so we cruised the area looking for a breakfast stop at one of the exits on I-40. We found a BBQ stand/cafe open that early, and bought our first 'sample' of the day, then sat in my truck eating Ribs and Corn Bread at 7 AM while we waited for Paul, Chris and Pov Pete to arrive.
Bushie with a ham biscuit that morning..

I am not as active on this site as some of y'all. But Bushie was an icon -- one of the original core people who made this site go. His comments were always relevant, insightful, thoughtful, amusing, or all of the above.

I didn't "know" him, but I knew him from this site, y'know?

RIP. I shall raise a glass in his honor tonight.

Thank you for posting pictures of this long-term Roadfooder.  This thread has been a great tribute to a passionate man.
