<< Reminded me of the fries I used to buy from Cy's fish store on Woodhaven Blvd in Middle Village when I was in elementary school 50+ years ago. They had the same smell and were sold in a bag for 25 cents.
Interesting. Around the same time, we kids in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn used to get our fries at a place called Hamilton fish Market on Ft. Hamilton Parkway. I think the smallest bag was a small wax paper bag for 10 cents, but if we were feeling flush we'd spring for the larger 25 cent brown paper bag. As I recall, the fries were terrific. I'm not sure what they fried them in, but I'm sure Bloomberg would have been appalled.
I never thought about this, but I wonder if most NYC boro kids had a go-to fry place in their neighborhood.
Since this thread is about Nathan's fries, well, the original was just a 20 minute bike ride away.
