Graham Mackey passed away yesterday.
He took a small brewey, South Africa Breweries, and nearly conquered the world with it. Today, SAB owns Coors, Miller, Grolsch, Foster's, and many others.  Think what you will of his products, the guy was an empire builder.
He was only 64 years old.

One of their numerous brands by the Czech brewer Velkopopovick√Ĺ is Kozel. I wish they brought that brand to the US.

Technically, I don't think they own Coors.  While they list only Coors light as one of their brands, I think it is a joint venture between SAB and Coors. In 2005 Coors merged with the Canadian brewer Molson.  SAB lists 84 brands in their portfolio.

I was always a fan of their Castle Lager when I lived in South Africa. A really fine beer. Sad to hear he's gone.

As a homebrewer, I love Grolsch bottles!  There was a time in the early 1990s where the markup on Grolsch-style bottles sold to homebrewers was so high, it was actually cheaper to buy a case of Grolsch itself and use those bottles.  I never understood that, but I used it to my benefit!
