Are there any real Darwin awards? Mr. James Elliot from Long Beach California won the Darwin Award in 2005 doing the exact same thing (or not) http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/darwin05.asp
I've seen several of the others over the years too.

I started reading these and realized they had already made their rounds early last year. Seems things keep getting "rediscovered" on the Internet. I guess for awards that is an end of the year syndrome.

There are numerous "Darwin Awards" out there; whoever started them neglected to trademark the term. And most of them do not go in the spirit of the original, where the winners took themselves out of the breeding pool in the most stupid way.
