A customer with a child, 7 or eight, comes in, the kid has the flu, the parent admits it, kid is coughing and sneezing, a lot! none of the staff wants to wait on them. Other Customers are ticked, what would you do...I'll tell you what I did!

They needed to be booted out immediately!   That is incredibly selfish behavior on their part.  Influenza is very serious and KILLS many thousands of people every year.

I would, as politely and friendly as possible, tell the parents I could not serve them, and they have to leave.  I would give them some token for the future, free this or that, something, and thanks a lot, folks, really sorry, but....

....but they should know better, too!

Aren't there  some local health ordinances that might apply?  I'm just asking, cause do not know.

I definitely would not like to be there as a customer and have someone that sick come in.

You got them fixed up with food to go, didn't charge them, told them to come back again when the kid was well, gained customers for life and will reap the rewards of having all the people they tell about your kindness and hospitality become regulars.

The issue with offering them things to go is that you still need them to wait outside.  I'm guessing those customers would raise a fuss about waiting outside.  They likely wouldn't have the courtesy (or sense) to do that, ... especially given their initial behavior of not caring about anyone else's health from the get go.
I'm guessing CTF ended up having to ask them to leave, much to the delight (and health) of all others.

So, what was the decision.? What ended up happening?

Bingo!! I did ask them to wait in their car, and your right Michael, I didn't charge them, hell flu germs on the money, I did think about that! In any case I was glad the woman didn't try to complain, if she had, I would have just tossed them, it was incredibly stupid to go into a Restaurant, under their circumstances. About a dozen Customers came up to me and thanked me.

Burger, Fries and a drink for 3 people is over $20.00!

I wouldn't bring my child to a restaurant or elsewhere with the flu and I don't think they would want to go-- being so sick. They both had the swine flu a few years ago and laying in bed was all they wanted to do and they missed 8 days of school. One of my favorite teachers they have would come by and leave their work in the mailbox -- I thought it was funny but I didn't blame her at all.

I took the kids to San Antonio this summer, the hotel we stayed at had free cocktails all day. I ordered 3 virgin tequila sunrises. I don't drink alcohol much anymore and esp. with my son and daughter and we were sitting in the community area not the bar. We were on our second round when in walks the highway patrol (why him and not local I don't know) and comes over and asks me to come outside. He smiles at me and says he didn't really want to be involved in this but please don't let the children drink alcohol. I explained it to him and he laughed, shook my hand, patted me on the back and said God bless you and went on his way ( im sure he had already talked to bartender or someone and knew they were non alcoholic and just needed to make contact). I returned to the kids and of course had to explain it all to them. We laughed about it also. About 10 minutes later a lady walks over to me and shouts that people like me shouldn't be allowed to have children. I tried to explain to her but she stormed off. The hotel manager came over and apologized and when I told him I thought it was funny and my 13 and 14 year old were laughing, we were friends the rest of the week.

Not sure why the police were involved in any way or who called them. Unless you were forcing your kids to drink alcohol, people need to mind their own business!  This is why I hate people, but only on days ending in 'Y'.  And as for the buttinsky lady, you were far kinder than I would have been.

I assumed the nice lady called them. Like I said I'm sure he checked with bartender before coming over and asking to talk to me. The officer was extremely nice and comical. Watching my kids walk around and act drunk for a few days afterwards really got old though.

I apologize for my ignorance, but by "nice lady" do you mean the lady who shouted at you?  And when you say "he checked with the bartender" do you mean the highway patrol officer?

If the shouting lady called the cops, once the cops spoke with the bartender they should have spoken only to the shouting lady and told her to mind her own businessas there was no law being broken.  The cops should NEVER have talked to you IMHO.
