I have all 3 versions of the Joy of Cooking ( one.the 2nd one, was bought in the UKin the late 80's when we lived there). The first version was my mother's and the cover has long since become a mess. but i enjoy the few margin comments Mom made on some recipes. I use the 2nd one the most since it's still "whole"; the 3rd round is so/so, but it's the old, falling-apart first one that has some great old recipes and tips that are hard to find.
A couple of Bread books( King Arthur the best, although not just bread)....one for the pressure cooker.........and one from Block Island my mom picked up in the 60's when we took our boat there..johnny Cakes....fish..shellfish.....great ideas
Other than that.........the internet and my recipe folder in my favorites give me ideas from which to explore
