The Best Taco in America? Attack this list??

Ok. I love a good Taco, but I surely am far from any kind of expert. Saw this "Best" list (which I am always leery of) , but not being a travelling expert, I thought I'd ask you guys. How good is this list???

Wow, a food list where I've only been to one place.  And oddly, that would be the taco place in Rhode Island!   In this case, La Lupita, who does indeed make a really damn fine taco.

Never really had a great taco out and about but I will say that a great taco salad comes from Mickey Gilley's restaurant in Branson.

Big city food critics. Their favorites, not necessary the best in these United States.

Check this; 90 euro for asparagus!
I wonder what they'd charge for a taco?

Austin and San Antonio appeared twice so I guess it has some validity.

Here in McKinney we have a bunch of 'Mom & Pops' (Mamas y Papas) that do 'knock your socks off' tacos - one of the many reasons why we keep making every 'Best Place to Live in America' list.

One could find all 10 in San Diego alone. Yet another totally BS list.

You should head north to Noblesville and visit El Palenque. They've got killer tacos and Mexican food. They continuously get high ratings and they're just a small hole in the wall place. Haven't had a bad meal there. You might also try the Tamale Place over on Rockville Rd. Best tamales in the region and an ever changing menu.

Lists are always fun. A local free weekly puts out a "Best of Worcester" each year, and I understand that it is always one of the most successful issues. On the national lists,  IMO, few of us ever get to more than one or two of the best places, and sometimes by the time we get there, they are just a tourist trap. I'm no Mexican expert, but there are some really good places in the Amherst Mass area, and I had a very good one today, at Cancuns in Grafton Mass. Cancuns is way above average in all areas, but I especially enjoy the décor. They took a dump of a family restaurant (once owned by a late friend), and with paint, and imported Mexican art/craft furnature, made the place hip, fun, and popular.

The best taco that I ever had, was a fish taco, at a little place in Old Town San Diego. At the time (at least 5 yrs ago) it was the "best" in the city. I wonder if they are still there, and still the "best"

Some lists are valid, but as a few pointed out, there are plenty of cities and towns where you could find enough great taco stands to make a list of 10 easily.

After reading this "10 best" list, I couldn't control myself. I had the biggest belly laughs since Jackie Gleason was on TV.

In Dallas, we're fortunate to have a huge Mexican expat population making the some of the best street tacos this side of Mexico City.

    Per the following links......

I've only been to The Tamale Place once but if the rest of the menu is as good as the green and red chile tamales I had that day I can see why it's so popular.

If my summer trip takes me to the east side of Indy this year I'll keep El Palenque in mind.

Tried cabesa once, won't try it again. But this one is a rare one-----chorizo. That one is from a favorite place of mine, El Chile Relleno.

I think you are right, and if I remember correctly it was very good! Real chorizo (not the pre-packaged stuff, but the type made in places like the meat market part of La Tapatia) can be a wonderful thing, a really delightful sausage with a very different flavor.

I shall run this one by Michael Hoffman. I may need a taste of real Mexican meat after a few days of Cincinnatti chili.

TacoDeli makes a respectable beef steak taco on a store bought tortilla. They are however in no way shape or form anywhere near the top of the Austin taco hierarchy. The best tacos in town are coming from a handful of carts like El Taco Rico on the southeast side, La Canaria in Central Austin and La Flor on South 1st street. I doubt the Austin writer has even heard of them.

Funny this subject has come up.H.E.B. the big grocery chain here in San Antonio has an ad about tacos. Of course Fiesta is going on here,so the subject is appropriate.

Lol.  The best tacos in America arent found in the most popular places.  I wont say this list isnt a good list of the most "popular" places, but it sure isnt the best.  Tacos are a Mexican street food so the best place to get them is on the street.  My favorite is a little taco truck north of Houston, TX.  I've also had some great tacos on the beaches of california.  One of these days I will remember to take some pics and post them on my blog (2for20bucks).  The Tacos De Lengua are the best!
