Thank you Buddy Roadhouse. I just tasted your Hot, Sweet & Tangy sauce. It is hot, it is sweet, it is tangy, and it's also smoky. But most of all it is flat out terrific. lleechef is using it for the steak tips she's preparing for dinner tonight.

I started getting my marinade ingredients together for the steak tips then realized I was out of A-1 sauce and chipotle peppers........I had all the other stuff but didn't feel like going back to the store.  So I thought.....maybe I could use Buddy's HS&T sauce and just add a little oil.  So we tasted the sauce..........YOWZER!!!  Absolutely delicious!!!  I may need to order a case.  Or two.  It's that good!

Thanks for the kind words.  I'll be in Cleveland twice this summer if you want to make a run up north for sauce.  I'm already hoping to meet up with Ralph Melton, icecreamchick, and maybe even buffetbuster.  If you guys make the trip we'd have a big chunk of the Cincinnati Chili Crawl crowd back together.
 
Start thinking good thoughts about a big plate of Pierogi's at Babushka's...

PS: I just ordered a bottle of each from Hotsauce.com.  Price was good but the shipping is high.  Free shipping on $75 worth of product so if you can bundle an order it will help.

Actually, I like to mix my Bar-B-Que Sauce with a little sour cream for Pierogis, say a one to one mixture.  A few grilled onions on top and you're living the dream.

P.S. I almost fell off my chair laughing when I started reading those articles linked by kozel, above.  One lists me at 37, the other as a "boyish 38-year-old".  Man, that was a long time ago.  Still boyish, IMHO, but 38 is deep in my rear view mirror.

My 4 jars came yesterday.  Buddy, I appreciate your comment 'recyclable glass' but if most of your sales are shipped, wouldn't plastic bottles be cheaper to ship and require less packing material?  Just a thought; can't wait to try them all.

WarToad, there was an ever evolving cook "booklet" that we used as a handout at demos.  Since our demo schedule has been curtailed in recent years, we stopped printing them.
 
If you, or any interested party, sends me a PM with a regular email address, I'll try to send you a copy as an attachment.  One caveat: it's formatted to fit on an 8 1/2" x 14" (I think) sheet of paper, so printing it out might not be all that easy.
 
kozel, yup, it sure would be cheaper and require less packing material if we used plastic, but glass is more readily recyclable.  Also, because we make an "all natural" product with no preservatives, we need to bottle our sauces at the boiling point.  The problem with plastic is that it will collapse in on itself as the sauce cools.  It's kinda tough to stick a label on a bottle that's almost bent in half.
 
Hope you enjoy your sauces!  Love to hear from satisfied customers.

I'm a pretty good cook and have tried to make BBQ sauce for years, and have never been really happy with any of them.  If I can't make it as good as I can buy it, then I'll just buy it.
 
Roadhouse is my favorite BBQ sauce by a mile.  It's all I'll use anymore.  I get it in the Milwaukee area at our local grocery chain http://www.sendiksmarket.com.  I haven't tried the Southwest flavor yet.  *Note to self, add that to the shopping list*

Unfortunately Sendik's no longer carries our Southwest flavor, also known as "Texas Tango"  They only have the "Original" and "Hot, Sweet & Tangy" flavors in stock.
 
However, I will happily bring you a bottle or two to the next Contingent get together.  Will I see you in Sheboygan this weekend?

I got my order today, and I tasted the Hot, Sweet and Tangy by draining the liquid off a can of beans and substituting the sauce. Very good! But I need to try it on some MEAT.

I got 2 bottles of the original, 1 HST, and one Texas. That should last a couple weeks!

In the meantime, we have "Mr. Try it once and you'll be hooked for life", here shown trying to lure unsuspecting people to their addiction.

 
Since I know there is no one in SoCal selling it, I think I can get them hooked easy. Ah.........evil plans.......a West Coast BBQ pusher......that's what I'll be......try some of that H,S & T.......just ine taste......you'll like it......

I absolutely love the Texas Tango, Buddy!  In fact I offered it along with the Original at my Spoils of Sheyboygan Picnic.  Nobody there had heard of or tried them before and everyone ended up loving them.  Thanks again.

Tonight I made what my mom used to call LBJ Burgers: cheeseburgers with bbq sauce. And I used the HST. It is unique, which is the highest compliment I can give.

It's got to be the sugars. They are very complex. There is just so much going on, it creates a wonderful confusion where my mouth wants to taste all the differences at once, and finally just surrenders.

Buddy, you just have to pitch this stuff to Wegman's. All Joey has to do is taste it, and he will find a way to get it on the shelf.

Buddy, now that I think about it Bill's Food Center in Oregon, WI would be a good fit if you're not already on the shelf there.  Bill's is an IGA affiliate and even though Oregon proper's only about 6500 people it's a well-stocked store with a variety of items one might not necessarily expect to find in a small-town grocery.

Lots of activity here lately and I've been too busy too respond.  I'm getting my act together and taking it on the road to Cleveland this weekend (details below), but I thought I'd take a moment to answer some recent posts.
 
Mosca and Ed Face, I seem to recall our Rochester, NY distributor (Olbro Co.) approaching Wegman's about getting our sauces on the shelf.  Obviously, there wasn't much interest at the time, but maybe we should take another shot.  Ed, if you think it's worthwhile, I might even manage a trip out your way to help make the sale.
 
ScreamingChicken, Southeastern Wisconsin used to be a stronghold for us, but changes in the grocery business and distribution have weakened our position a bit.  Both Bill's in Oregon and your Piggly Wiggly carried our sauces, but I'm not sure what their status is now.
 
Our Cleveland demos start tomorrow at a series of Heinen's stores through Sunday.  Here's the schedule:
- Heinen's; 8482 E. Washington St.; Bainbridge, OH; (440) 543-5166
- Heinen's; 402 Center St.; Chardon, OH; (440) 286-5484
- Heinen's; 30849 Pinetree Rd.; Pepperpike, OH; (216) 831-8300
- Heinen's; 16611 Chagrin Blvd.; Shaker Hts., OH; (216) 921-6638
 
Demos start around noon and run until 7pm on Thursday and Friday, 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.  I'm available to meet for dinner any evening for anyone visiting the area.  I'll also have sauce available for purchase at a very reasonable price for certain interested parties.
 
More from Cleveburg when I arrive.

Both Friday night at Sokolowski's and Saturday night at Babushka's offer outstanding opportunities for Pierogi consumption.  You can either meet me at the store just before I wrap up each night, or we can meet at the restaurant, whichever works best for you.  If you've never visited a Heinen's store, I highly recommend stopping by.  And bring a cooler.
 
It will probably be just us.  Ralph Melton and icecreamchick have already said they're unavailable this weekend but are planning to make the trip in June.  Word on the street is, buffetbuster is looking for Dorothy and Toto somewhere in Kansas.

Davydd, you know you're my friend and we loved our visits to the Twin Cities, but there was no "Minnesota Nice" in the way our distributor and Lund's/Byerly's handled us.  After more than 15 years of doing business together, including two to three trips every summer to do demos, we were pretty much screwed out of our shelf space by a greedy and unethical distributor, then abandoned by the store when we turned to them for solutions.
 
In spite of all that, I'd still go back if given the opportunity.  We loved Mpls/StP and I wish we had a reason to return.  Between the Burgers at Lion's Tap, the Tea Smoked Duck at Tea House, and the frozen Vodka at Baku (oh yeah, and hanging out with you and Nancy of course), I still have enough reasons to make a return trip, I just need to find the time.

Ed Face/Robby Ade, I didn't forget who you were (at least not since your explanation in another thread) I was just respecting the sanctity of your screen name.  I have no problem talking to Billy about Wegman's, I just got a sense that you might have some connection there that could facilitate our entry.
 
The 'Que joint we visited was N.N. Smokehouse, at one time some of Chicago's best BBQ.  Sadly, a dispute with their landlord put them out of business.
 
Michael Hoffman, the cooler is strictly optional in case you wanted to do any shopping at Heinen's.  They've got an excellent meat selection that might appeal.  Also a wide variety of unique prepared foods which would need to be kept cool.  If shopping isn't part of your agenda, the cooler won't be necessary.

I'm just curious, but in that picture of all the Roadhouse sauces, on the shelf above is an empty row, that stuff must be amazing, what is it ? (only kidding). I use Roadhouse all the time. My fave is Hot & Spicy, but I love them all. Mixing them in burgers is really good, also adding & toping meatloaf is swell. Anyone coming to the western N.Y. area, let me know we have some great Roadfood style places not mentioned yet in the books. I would like to meet some of you guys. I've been a fan since the first edition.

Michael and Lisa, so sorry you're too sick to make the trip up here.  Hope you'll be feeling better soon.  I'm especially sorry because of the sudden, unplanned urgency of visiting Babushka's due to their impending retirement.  Of course, I'm not quite sorry enough that I won't be going without you.  If you're up and around before their last day on May 30th, I highly recommend getting one last meal before they're gone.
 
For anyone willing to travel a great distance for an amazing plate of Pierogis, I'll be at Babushka's Saturday night around 7pm.  According to the nice young lady who took my call this evening, be ready to wait for a table.

You're a considerate woman Lisa, although I believe the medicinal qualities of Babushka's Cabbage Rolls might have actually had some positive effect on your ailment.
 
I did enjoy my last meal at Babushka's.  I just hope it doesn't come back to haunt me.  Knowing this would be my last chance to enjoy their wonderful food, I summoned the spirit of buffetbuster and the courage of ChiTownDiner and ordered two entrees for myself.
 
After looking at the menu, I realized I'd never ordered the Cabbage Rolls, usually opting for a dish called "The Warsaw" which consists of two potato pancakes sandwiching a mound of roast pork, dumplings, and sauerkraut, all topped off with a generous dollop of sour cream.  I love "The Warsaw" and really, really wanted one.  But knowing this was my last chance, I sensibly went with the Cabbage Rolls with sides of cucumber salad (a little disappointing), and the house Tomato Soup with dumplings--minus the dumplings (too distracting from the comforting tang of the creamy Tomato Soup).
 
For my second entree I went with the Pierogi Variety Plate.  Two each of the Potato Cheddar, Mushroom Swiss, and Sauerkraut Pierogis filled plate, smothered in grilled onions and butter.  My intent was to eat half of each dinner, then pack up the rest to either eat for breakfast, or bring back to Chicago for Mrs. Roadhouse (provided she's brought home sufficient leftovers for me from Smoke/Pie Day at the JRPfeff's).
 
I can't say enough good things about Babushka's, and if anyone plans to be within 50 miles of Cleveland before their last day on the 31st, do yourself a favor and make the side trip.  You won't be sorry!

P.S. MH & Lisa, maybe you can shoot for a June visit to the Cleve.  Babushka's will be gone, but Sokolowski's will still be there.

Sounds like you had a great......no, fantastic meal at Babushka's! Sorry we missed you and the food.  About June in the Cleve, it will depend on when as we are going first to MD mid-June, then up to CT.  We will make it there one of these days!

I used your Hot, Sweet and Tangy sauce on hamburgers today.  Great taste!  Everyone loved it.  Thanks again for giving me a bottle of this stuff. 
 
Also, has anyone ever tried Roadhouse BBQ on baked chicken?  Awesome combo.

Chicken was the second thing I used mine on, with pork tenderloin being the first.  Really, really good!!
