On a related note, add Siracha to the stampede of businesses moving from Cali to Texas.

Siracha claims that their Cali neighbors are complaning (and suing) over the 'pepper smell' emanating from their plant!

Well, frack those 'neighbors'; they don't seem too neighborly to me.

Welcome to the Lone Star State, Siracha.

The stupid thing is, Irwindale made a big offer/concession to have Huy Fong relocate from their original location to their current location. it was done and approved by the city council, who made several concessions to entice them to move to Irwindale. So it turns out, last that I read, of the 50 or so complaints about the smell, something like 47 came from the son of one of the council members. This has to be one of the stupidest local government screw-ups and blatant uses of nepotism yet.

Here's a local take on the debacle:

I tried the onion rings...........and.....they ARE good!  I sliced up a cple of sweet onions about 1/2-5/8 inch thick to get 4 pieces (2 slicings). Using double rings, I anointed them in srirarcha and wrapped 3 pieces of thick sliced bacon. cold smoked them in my Emson pressure smoke/cooker for about 10 mins then transferred them to a baking sheet for a 250 baking for 45-50 mins.  The bacon wasn't crisping enough so the heat went up to 425 for about the last 5 mins.

Held their shape.....hot and good.......perfect onion.  Nice range of flavors.  But for most folks, I
'd think 1-2 is enough. Perfectly fine w/o dipping sauce, but that might add something.  The other 2 got chopped up and added to my warm german potato salad tonight........just right!

That is really sad. For years, I had driven past Toyota HQ on 190th Street twice a day. It was a big part of the area and it's going to hurt a lot of people.

Of course, I still am amazed that CA refused to give concessions to turn the Mojave Airport, the birthplace of many of Burt Rutan's project and the home base of SpaceShipOne when it made the record for first private manned suborbital flight and won the AnsariX Prize. A few days before, Mojave was approved as a "spaceport". The next thing you knew, the real Spaceport was given to New Mexico, which is where VirginGalactic will fly from. CA, both state and local governments, have no concept when it comes to keeping businesses. Believe me, for a CA resident, I cannot believe what they are doing. And it's not new. It's been happening for years here. If you saw a list of all the companies that have left over the last 30 years you'd be shocked.

Yeah---go figure! But I think there was so much negative publicity for the city and only good publicity for Huy Fong so they really didn't have a choice. Even the State of CA sent reps to the tour of the factory that several city government members went to the day before. Apparently they didn't say anything, but can you imagine the looks that the State people gave the council members that day?

If I was Sriracha, I'd tell the politicians to use their sauce as an enema to help them get their heads out of their A--!
And then move to Arizona where "HOT" is second nature to everyone!
About 43% of the annual new residents in AZ come from CA anyway.

Unfortunately, the bac-onion rings were served late, after most of us were stuffed and didn't get a chance to crisp the bacon. I tried one of the Sriracha rings and enjoyed it. I didn't notice much heat from the Srirachi. Oddly, while distracted eating the rings, the texture had me thinking I was biting into a piece of shrimp. They were a good addition to the Smoke Day menu.

I've been eating the leftovers made with the Mustard BBQ Sauce and they're outstanding.  The only drawback is, they're incredibly rich and I can't eat more than one per sitting.

So I get up, move around a bit, then sit back down again and have another Bacon Wrapped Onion Ring.  And Repeat.
