These days, it seems like the only traveling I do is to Ithaca, NY where my son is attending college. This latest trip to pick him up for the summer found us visiting a few regular places: Hal's Deli http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/1263/hals-deli
College Town Bagels http://collegetownbagels.com/
and Short Stop Deli http://www.shortstopdeli.com/welcome.htm
. All three are still excellent and recommended. We did get to try out two new (to us) places: Kilpatrick's http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g47958-d662738-Reviews-Kilpatrick_s_Publick_House-Ithaca_Finger_Lakes_New_York.html
, an Irish pub connected to the Hilton Garden Inn. Typical hotel eatery with nice ambiance, in the middle of Ithaca's downtown. My wife and I had eaten a late lunch at Hal's and really wanted a couple of cocktails and a light dinner. I ordered the sirloin stew and my wife ordered the onion soup. Both were excellent. Aside from the regular Guiness the pub had a nice selection of microbrews on tap. Service was friendly and quick.
The evening before, we had tried the Bandwagon Brew Pub, also in Ithaca'a downtown. http://bandwagonbeer.com/
. The place was crowded and noisy, so we only stayed for a couple of drinks. The "house brews" were quite good. My son insists that the food is excellent, so next trip we will probably try lunch there.
Due to our schedule, on both legs of the trip up /down Rt. 15 our favorite Barbecue "joint", Chubby's was closed so we could only wave as we drove by. Maybe next trip....
